Kramer Hickok is making his 68th start on the PGA Tour this week at the 2021 Travelers Championship. And after his start on Thursday, he’s got eyes on doing something he’s never done before.

Hickok, a University of Texas product, didn’t get off to the greatest start in Thursday’s first round. Playing the back nine first, he bogeyed the 10th hole to immediately slip to 1-over par. He was able to settle down just a bit after that with three consecutive pars.

Starting on the par-4 14th hole, Hickok really got things going. He would birdie the 14th and he followed that with a birdie on the par-4 15th hole. He had gone from 1-over par to 1-under par in two holes.

Hickok would par the par-3 16th before another birdie, this one at the par-4 17th hole. After parring the 18th hole, Hickok finished his first nine at 2-under par.

The back nine was a much different story for the 29-year-old.

He opened with a birdie on the par-4 first hole. He then birdied the par-4 second hole. Suddenly, he was 4-under on his round.

Hickok would par the third, fourth and fifth holes to stay at 4-under. Then, he birdied the par-5 sixth and par-4 seventh holes. He was 6-under par and tied for the lead at that point.

He would par the eighth hole but he finished his round with a birdie on the par-4 ninth hole. That left him with a sizzling 30 on his second nine and an overall round of 7-under par 63. Hickok was in the lead when he left the course.

Hickok has two Top 10s in his 67 previous starts on the PGA Tour. He has never finished higher than T8, which came earlier this year at the Bermuda Championship. It remains to be seen what happens the rest of the week, but Thursday’s start could land Hickok in unchartered waters, at least for him, this weekend.
