2021 Travelers Championship: Jason Day Shoots Best Round of Year
By Tim Letcher
Jason Day has not had a great year on the PGA Tour. But after Friday’s round at the 2021 Travelers Championship, he is in position to change the narrative on his season.
Day had his best round of the season so far on Friday and went from near the cut line to in the lead in the course of 18 holes. And he made it look easy.

Starting on the back nine, Day parred the par-4 10th hole. But he got things going on the par-3 11th hole. He stuck his tee shot about five feet from the hole and made the birdie to get to 1-under par.
Day would par the 12th hole before an easy birdie on the par-5 13th hole got him to 2-under on his round. And Day was just getting started.
But his rally would not come yet. In fact, Day would par the next four holes before a birdie on the 18th hole got him to 3-under, which is where he finished his first nine.
On the back nine, Day got red hot.
He birdied the first hole. Then he birdied the second. After a par on the third, he birdied the fourth and fifth holes. Suddenly, he went from 3-under par to 7-under par in the span of five holes.
Day had a disappointing par on the par-5 sixth hole but bounced back with a birdie at the par-4 seventh. He would par the eighth and ninth holes to complete his round of 8-under par 62.
The round was, by far, Day’s best of the year. His previous low round came when he shot a 65 in the final round of the RSM Classic in November.
Day finds himself with a one-shot lead through 36 holes. He’s one ahead of Bubba Watson and Kramer Hickok at the halfway point.
Day is looking to snap a winless streak that dates back to 2018, when he won twice. His last victory came at the Wells Fargo in May of that year, meaning that it’s been more than three years since the former world number one has claimed victory.
He’s not there yet, but Day is in position to win this week. However, there’s still a long way to go.
