Cameron Smith is one of the most underappreciated talents on the PGA Tour. He showed that once again on Saturday at the 2021 Travelers Championship.

All of the attention seemed to be on other players on Saturday. Yes, big names like Jason Day and Bubba Watson were competing for the lead all day long. Yes, Kramer Hickok is a great story, should he go on to win this week for his first tour win.

Yes, Dustin Johnson had a big day and vaulted up the leaderboard. Yes, Bryson DeChambeau finds himself in the mix with 18 holes to play.

Meanwhile, Smith just continues to do his thing. A three-time winner on the PGA Tour, Smith worked his way up the leaderboard on Saturday in search of win number four.

Smith has been very consistent this week in Connecticut. He shot a 67 on Thursday, followed by a 68 on Friday. He was tied for 20th through 36 holes.

Then on Saturday, Smith made his move. And it started from the very beginning.

Smith started his day with a birdie on the par-4 first hole. He then birdied the par-4 second hole. He was quickly 2-under on his Saturday round.

After a par on the third hole, Smith slipped back with a bogey on the par-4 fourth hole. He was 1-under through four.

Smith would par the fifth hole before another birdie, this one on the par-5 sixth, got him to 2-under on his round. Smith would also birdie the par-3 eighth hole, closing his front nine with a 3-under par 32.

On the back nine, Smith would birdie the 13th hole and the 15th hole, getting to 5-under par. But he bogeyed the 16th hole to slip back to 4-under. That’s where he would finish his round.

Smith is now tied for third place, one shot behind Kramer Hickok and Bubba Watson. He will definitely be a factor on Sunday, whether people pay attention to him or not.
