The 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic begins on Thursday in Detroit. There is some star power in the field, although not a ton.

Our staff writers have made their selections for this week and you can see them below.

Bryson DeChambeau

Michael Ellis

Back-to-back weeks for me picking DeChambeau. DeChambeau simply didn’t putt well enough to win at the Travelers last week. I’m sure he spent lots of practice time on the greens this week. Look for DeChambeau to repeat as the Rocket Mortgage champion.

Tim Letcher

This course sets up very nicely for the long-hitting DeChambeau. He won here by three shots last year and I see him repeating in 2021.

Mike Randleman

Bryson DeChambeau didn’t get a glimpse of Detroit Golf Club in 2019, but that didn’t matter when he made his debut a year later. Even in firm and fast conditions benefitting the shorter hitters, DeChambeau bludgeoned the field at the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic. He fired 66-67-67-65 to win by three over Matthew Wolff, five over third place and seven over fourth place.

Kevin Kisner

Josh Mullenix

In the first two years of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Kevin Kisner is 27-under par including a third place finish in 2020. He finished T5 last week at the Travelers Championship and had his second best putting round ever on the PGA Tour in the final round. While Bryson DeChambeau overpowered the course last year, he had a phenomenal putting week and so did the 2019 champion. Kis has had a rough last six weeks or so but the form he found at the Travelers and past success in Detroit put him in the mix this week.

I like Will Zalatoris this week. The Rocket is a great breakthrough event, and Zalatoris is as poised for a breakthrough as anybody. A win here sets the stage for a strong finish to his 2021 season, and marks him as a player on a long-term basis.

West Valentine

For the Rocket Mortgage I’m going with Will Zalatoris. He’s made a name for himself popping up in Majors, but this is a tournament he can win. The field is good, but not great. I’m pulling for Mathew Wolff too, I just want to see him find success and get back on track.
