Fantasy Golf: Sleeper DFS DraftKings Selections for Rocket Mortgage Classic
By Kasey Kuhrts
My undervalued and sleeper DFS DraftKings selections are back just in time for the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
In what is still a relatively new event, we don’t know for sure what will be the most important stats this week. Last year Bryson DeChambeau overpowered the field to a win, which is something we have seen multiple times since then.
As always, check out Hans Geevers’ full-lineup picks that he posts each and every week. Hans’ article is also great for reading about the course, and how he believes it will play.
And of course, as always in my articles, I am only looking at players under the average DraftKings salary of $8,333. Finding value is the most important thing when making your selections, so I hope to bring you some solid options.
The key stats I will be looking at this week are strokes gained Off-The-Tee and putting, as well as birdie or better percentage. Here are my selections:
Cameron Tringale ($8,100)
My 8K selection of the week is Cameron Tringale. Tringale is having a very nice season so far, as he currently sits inside the top-40 in the FedEx Cup standings. What has helped that, Tringale has three top-ten finishes since February.
So far on tour this season Tringale sits 25th in strokes gained putting and 26th in birdie or better percentage.
Tringale has made the cut in both of the previous Rocket Mortgage Classic’s. Tringale finished T5 in the first Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2019, and T30 in last season’s event.
Sepp Straka ($7,700)
My first 7K selection of the week is Sepp Straka. Straka is coming off a T10 finish at the Travelers Championship last week, his third top-ten of the super season.
So far on tour this season Straka is sitting 53rd in birdie or better percentage, 73rd in strokes gained Off-The-Tee, and 89th in strokes gained putting.
My main reason for having Straka as an undervalued selection this week is his history at Detroit Country Club. In both of the first two Rocket Mortgage Classic’s, Straka has finished no worse than 11th, highlighted by a T8 finish last season.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see Straka win his first PGA Tour event this week in Detroit.
Sebastian Munoz ($7,300)
My final 7K selection of the week is Sebastian Munoz. Munoz is just a couple of weeks removed from his best finish of the season, a T3 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
So far on tour this season Munoz sits 45th in birdie or better percentage, 82nd in strokes gained Off-The-Tee, and 94th in strokes gained putting.
Munoz has yet to make a cut at Detroit Country Club, but I think this is the year for Munoz.
Satoshi Kodaira ($6,800)
My first 6K selection of the week is Satoshi Kodaira. Kodaira continued his very nice stretch of golf last week, as he has racked up four straight made cuts, three of those being top-20 finishes.
So far on tour this season Kodaira sits 82nd in strokes gained putting, 86th in birdie or better percentage, and 93rd in strokes gained Off-The-Tee.
Kodaira will be making his second start at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, he missed the cut back in 2019.
James Hahn ($6,400)
My final selection of the week is James Hahn. After starting the season incredibly hot, Hahn has cooled off. It is hard to believe Hahn hasn’t made a cut since The Players Championship, but that is his current situation.
So far on tour this season Hahn sits 43rd in strokes gained putting, T50 in birdie or better percentage, and 89th in strokes gained Off-The-Tee.
Hahn has missed his only cut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, however, in that event, Hahn shot a first-round 67. His second-round 76 however, didn’t allow Hahn to see the weekend.
I think this year, Hahn sees the weekend in Detroit.
