Cam Davis – The Australian earned his first PGA Tour victory in a three-way playoff. It took him five extra holes but Davis was able to get the job done. With the win, Davis is now 34th in the FedEx Cup standings. More importantly, his future is extremely bright.
Troy Merritt – He came up just short of winning for the third time on the PGA Tour, falling to Davis on the fifth playoff hole. Still, Merritt jumped 39 spots in the FedEx Cup standings and has almost certainly locked up a playoff spot.
Joaquin Niemann – Yes, he came up short in the playoff, but it was a good week for Niemann. He’s now 14th in the FedEx Cup standings and continues to prove that he’s one of the game’s brightest young stars.
Alex Noren – The Swede has not had great success on the PGA Tour but he was in the mix until the very end this week. He jumped 20 spots in the FedEx Cup standings and, like Merritt, almost certainly secured his place in the postseason.
Hank Lebioda – Another player who did himself a lot of good in the race for the posteason. Lebioda jumped 20 spots into 94th place in the FedEx Cup standings. He probably needs to do a little more to get into the playoffs but this week helped a great deal.
Losers
Bryson DeChambeau – He parted ways with his caddie prior to the event, then missed the cut as the defending champion. It was not the week DeChambeau was hoping to have.
Webb Simpson – The recent slump continued for Simpson this week. A second-round 74 left him outside the cut line in an event where he should have been contending.
Emiliano Grillo – Not a good week for Grillo in Detroit. He shot 74-70 to miss the cut by a large margin. He’s been good this year but was not this week.
Cameron Champ – The struggles continue for the talented Champ. A 77 on Friday left him way outside the cut line this week. He’s going to need something big to happen to make the playoffs.
Charles Howell III – Needing to make something happen to get into the postseason, Howell instead shot 69-75 to miss the cut. He’s on the outside of the playoffs at this point.
