Brooks Koepka spent his Friday at The Open doing Brooks Koepka things. That is, putting together a great round in a major and putting himself in position to make progress on moving day.

What started out as a roller coaster of a front nine, with a birdie on the second hole, followed by a bogey on three, double bogey on four and a birdie on five. After that, Koepka would grab six birdies to just one bogey.

Koepka went on a huge scoring run into the clubhouse, having birdies on four of his last five holes to post a four under round of 66. I guarantee that Brooks wanted to keep playing because he felling it so much that he probably would’ve vaulted himself to about a shot back.

The real fun happened after his round was over. Brooks Koepka, in his post round interview with Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis, said “Drove the ball great. Love my driver.” Of course, in reference to Bryson DeChambeau complaining about how he didn’t like his driver on Thursday.

This is why I love Brooks Koepka, he sometimes brings all kinds of petty and I, for one, am absolutely here for it.

Brooks’ bestie Bryson has had his work cut out for him this week at Royal St. George’s. After a one over 71 on Thursday and an even par 70 on Friday, DeChambeau had to scramble to make the cut late, birdies on 14 and 15 got him just over the cut line at +1.

With DeChambeau struggling, you just knew that Koepka was going to take advantage and use the opportunity to take a shot at Bryson. Honestly, Bryson makes it way too easy.

DeChambeau always does the talk, but really hasn’t done much in terms of the walking. Yes, he won the US Open in 2020. That is 100% true, and I’m not taking that away from him, but the constant complaining about, well, everything, detracts from his actual talent and makes him very unlikable.

Koepka, on the other hand, is a bulldog and if you get in his way, he will eat you. He trolls when he feels its necessary, like also tweeting today, “Driving into the weekend!” and also kicks tush on the golf course.

If it’s a major, Brooks Koepka is likely involved. He has the chops, the skill, and the results, being a four-time major champion.

Brooks Koepka sits in a tie for 12th at -5 halfway through The Open, with Louis Oosthuizen leading the way at -11. Math tells us he’s six shots back, giving him a chance if he can keep him momentum from today and transfer it Saturday.

If you needed another indication as to who is “winning”, this rivalry, just consider this juxtaposition. On Saturday, Brooks Koepka will be positioning himself to chase his first Open Championship, while Bryson DeChambeau will be teeing off Talor Gooch in the second grouping.

Seems pretty simple to me.
