Tony Finau

I’m feeling strangely Tony Finau this week. Beyond a nice finish at the British Open, I’m not sure why. It’s not like he’s played especially well recently…two missed cuts and just one top 10 since the Masters. I’m banking on a return to form.

Tony Finau is gunning for his third fat paycheck in as many tries at the 3M Open. He debuted at TPC Twin Cities in 2019 along with the rest of the PGA Tour and fired four rounds in the 60s (66-68-69-68) en route to T-23rd. Finau had one of his better chances to snap a now five-year PGA Tour drought in Blaine in 2020. The Utahan again was sub-70 all four days (65-66-69-68) and finished three shots out of a playoff in a tie for third. Finau is a top-tier ball-striker and appreciates knowing how his ball will react from the greens. Not to say he can’t play the ground game if he needs to, as evidenced by T-15th last week at The Open.

Johnson played well last week at the Open Championship and may be rounding into form as he prepares to defend his FedEx Cup title. He had a rough time in the Twin Cities last year, withdrawing after one round, but the guess here is that he redeems himself with a win in Blaine this week.
