Collin Morikawa – He most recently won the Open Championship to claim his second major championship title. He’s playing well coming to the games and has been installed as the betting favorite. Seeing Morikawa on the medal stand would be the least surprising event of the week.
Justin Thomas – He’s the second-highest rated player in this week’s field and will be a factor for sure. Thomas has not had his best lately but he’s still as talented as anyone in this competition. Something close to his best will definitely have the Kentucky native on the medal stand.
Xander Schauffele – The world’s fifth-ranked player, Schauffele is also not at the top of his game. But like Thomas, he has serious talent and, if he can call on something that’s in the neighborhood of his best, he will have a real chance at earning an Olympic medal this week.
Hideki Matsuyama – After breaking through by winning the Masters earlier this year, Matsuyama became even more focused on winning an Olympic medal in his home country. It would be a thrill for him, and for his home country, to see him claim Olympic glory in Japan.
Viktor Hovland – The talented Hovland continues to progress his way up the world rankings. He’s currently at No. 11, making him the fourth-highest rated player in this week’s field. Hovland has shown that he can go at it with the best players in the world and do better than hold his own. Look for him to be in medal contention this week.
