Adam Scott currently sits at No. 121 in the FedEx Cup standings. This is a most unusual position for Scott, who has been a very good player for a very long time.
Scott has won 14 PGA Tour events in his career, including the Players Championship (2004), the Tour Championship (2006) and the Masters (2013). His last win came at the 2020 Genesis Invitational.
However, the 2020-21 season has not been great to Scott. The good news is that he has made 16 cuts in 17 starts this year. His only missed cut came at the PGA Championship in May.
Scott has not been able to take advantage of his opportunities this season. In those 16 made cuts, he has finished in the Top 25 on just five occasions. Only once has Scott finished inside the Top 10 this season. That came at the Farmers Insurance Open in January, where Scott finished T10.
All of this adds up to Scott needing to play well at the Wyndham Championship this week. He has very little room for error if he wants to extend his streak of having made the playoffs in each of its seasons of existence, dating back to 2007.
Scott has shown some signs of life in his game over the last two months. He was T16 at the Memorial Tournament in June, and was T13 at the Travelers Championship later that month. After a bad start last week in Memphis, Scott rallied to finish T36.
The playoffs would not be the same without Adam Scott. The guess here is that Scott does enough to make it into the postseason again.
