2021 Wyndham Championship: Dark Horses
Before I jump into this week’s tournament, I wanted to do a quick recap for the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. My three dark horses were Brian Harman, Sergio Garcia, and Jim Herman. It was a no cut event so all three played all four rounds. Herman was so hot in the first round with a 64, cooled off in the second, and went backwards on the weekend. Harman was kind of stagnant all week, and Sergio did above average. Sergio was T26, Harman was T36, and Herman was T46.

This week, the PGA Tour is heading to Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, NC for the Wyndham Championship. Last year, our boy from last week Jim Herman won this tournament. This is a field with little, big named players and it is a course where you can go low. I think this is a tournament where a value guy can come out on top.
This week I will be providing three dark horses, meaning players that are longshots, but could play really well for their low salary. These dark horses are golfers that are $7,500 and below. Also I use DraftKings, so these prices will be for their website, but the players can be used on FanDuel as well.
Dark Horse Number 1
Bo Hoag ($7,100): Hoag is my favorite of the dark horses because he is playing pretty well and has a couple decent rankings in key stats. I think he has a high ceiling, and if he can get into the top 30’s, he should pay off. He also has a ceiling of a top 20.
Last Five Finishes on Tour: 59th, 16th, 11th, 47th, 32nd
Last Three Finishes Here: 42nd, DNP, DNP
Key Stats:
SG Tee-to-Green: 76th
SG Putting: 124th
Birdie or Better Percentage: 142nd
Greens in Regulation: 17th
Dark Horse Number 2
Roger Sloan ($6,700): Another one of my dark horses because he has played well the past two years here. He also has some good form coming into this tournament because he is coming off a 6th and a 16th place finish. Also pretty cheap to fit in higher priced guys, while having a good ceiling when it comes to finishing places.
Last Five Finishes on Tour: 6th, 16th, 31st, 71st, 21st
Last Three Finishes Here: 31st, 39th, DNP
Key Stats:
SG Tee-to-Green: 66th
SG Putting: 133rd
Birdie or Better Percentage: 76th
Greens in Regulation: 24th
Dark Horse Number 3
Branden Grace ($7,400): He is a riskier place and the most expensive of my dark horses. He does have some potential to be a decent play this week on DraftKings. He has had a couple great finishes in his past five starts. He has two top tens and a top 30. Definitely a decent guy to consider this week.
