Fantasy Golf: 2021 Northern Trust Draftkings Player Selections
By Hans Geevers
This week, the PGA Tour travels to Jersey City, New Jersey for the 2021 Northern Trust. Fantasy golf fans will be presented with the first FedEx Cup playoff event of the year. A stacked field of talent will descend on New Jersey looking to capture a win! Let’s take a look at this week’s first FedEx Cup playoff event from a fantasy golf perspective.
Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide a specific lineup. Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a Draftkings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

*The 2021 Northern Trust will be played at the Liberty National Golf Club. Liberty National previously hosted the Northern Trust in 2019, 2013 and 2009.
Here are my fantasy golf/Draftkings player selections for the 2021 Northern Trust.
Jordan Spieth $10,800
The three time major champion arrives at this week’s 2021 Northern Trust in rather good form. More specifically, Spieth has accumulated eight top 19 finishes in his last nine tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a second place result at the 2021 Open Championship last month.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Northern Trust field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Spieth ranks 12th in GIR (greens in regulation), third in birdie or better percentage, and first in total Draftkings points scored.
I also like the fact the Spieth has performed well at Liberty National Golf Club in the past. Spieth finished 19th at the 2013 Northern Trust and sixth at the 2019 Northern Trust.
Daniel Berger $9,100
The 28 year old has three top eight finishes in his last four events played on the PGA Tour, including a seventh place result at the 2021 U.S. Open in June.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Northern Trust field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Berger ranks seventh in GIR (greens in regulation), fourth in bogey avoidance, and fourth in strokes gained ball striking.
Adam Scott $8,400
The Australian has two top 13 finishes in his last four tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a second place result at last week’s 2021 Wyndham Championship. Scott missed a makeable birdie putt in a six man playoff that unfortunately cost him the win. However, I think Scott’s game is trending in a positive direction. I expect him to play well again this week in New Jersey.
It should also be noted that Scott won the 2009 Northern Trust which was also played at Liberty National Golf Club.
Cameron Champ $7,300
The talented young American has accumulated two top 11 finishes in his last three tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a win at the 2021 3M Open.
Troy Merritt $6,600
Merritt has never been the type of golfer that will put together a long streak of consecutive top ten finishes on the PGA Tour. However, he has played some very good golf at times this season. Troy finished eighth at the 2021 Valspar Championship in April, seventh at the 2021 Charles Schwab Challenge in May, and he secured a second place finish at the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic last month. I think Merritt presents outstanding fantasy golf value at the low Draftkings price of only $6,600.
Additional golfers I like this week: John Rahm $11,500: Collin Morikawa $10,400.
