Cameron Smith’s Moving Day 60 Shows How Dangerous He Can Be

Cameron Smith shot a 60 on Saturday of the 2021 Northern Trust, and it could have been a 58. The Aussie continues to shine and do remarkable things, which should make him someone people take seriously.

Just two weeks ago, Smith matched the PGA Tour record for fewest putts in a round at 18, and now he shot his lowest-career score.

Smith’s dangerous with a putter in his hand, well with any golf club in his hand. The more experience he gets, the better he performs. To me, seeing that 60 on moving day should make people pay attention to Smith and see he could really become a force on Tour.

That 60 broke Liberty National’s course record by two strokes, but it was almost three to four strokes. Smith just missed a 12-footer on 18  and had a look at eagle on the drivable par-4 16th but settled for another birdie.

Even though Smith seems like someone, who gets talked about a good bit among the golf publications after the last few weeks, he should get more air time, especially if he finds a way to defeat his determined co-leader Jon Rahm.

So far in this super season, the mulleted-mustached Aussie has won at the 2020 Sony Open in Hawaii and recently at the  Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Smith also has a T2 at the Masters in November and a solo fourth at The Genesis Invitational.

Not to mention he has one third-place, nine top-10s, 20 top 25s  and has made 31 of 40 cuts.

It’s only a matter of time before Smith hits a run, and we could be watching it unfold before us.

Whatever he’s done since the Open Championship, Smith needs to keep it up and continue to put down the hammer.

Through three rounds of competition, Smith leads the field in strokes gained tee-to-green at 9.778 and tied at the top in total strokes gained at 11.594. He sits second in strokes gained approach to the green at 6.155.

Smith has 20 total birdies on the week and two bogeys so far — though it helps when you’re hitting 74.07% (40/54) greens in regulation.

Some may say that he isn’t quite a dangerous force on Tour because of a few bad months of golf, but it seems he’s figured out what he struggled with, and now it’s like he’s a machine.

Golf is a game of ups and downs; it’s all about how you overcome those adversities and play your best golf four days in a row. Even though the guys won’t finish on Sunday, the break could be a good one for Smith as usually guys follow up a round like Saturday’s with a few struggles.

He’ll need as much focus as possible because he’s going up against a laser-focused Rahm, so Smith should get ready to play aggressive golf because it’ll be on Monday. If it benefits anyone, it’ll be him, and if anyone can beat Rahm right now, it’s Smith.

What Smith has done on the golf course the last few weeks is really impressive, and if he keeps it up, he’ll be one dangerous man.
