Tony Finau, John Rahm, Cameron Smith – Finau broke a five-year winless streak by taking the title at the Northern Trust. Rahm probably should have won the event but settled for a T2. Smith made it to the playoff against Finau but faltered in overtime. Still, his 60 on Saturday was the round of the week.
Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas – Cantlay quietly remains in the mix for the FedEx Cup title. Morikawa entered last week on top of the standings but missed the cut to fall back a bit. Thomas looked like he would be in contention last week before falling back in the field.
Bryson DeChambeau, Harris English, Jordan Spieth – DeChambeau always draws attention, no matter what he’s doing. That will certainly be the case this week as the playoffs continue. English did not play well last week but remains in the mix for the FedEx Cup. Spieth had just one good round last week but he will look to bounce back at the BMW.
Abraham Ancer, Sam Burns, Louis Oosthuizen – Ancer got his first PGA Tour win just a couple of weeks ago. Burns has been solid all season long but is in his first postseason. Oosthuizen has cooled a bit since his hot summer but is still playing about as well as anyone in the world right now.
Viktor Hovland, Brooks Koepka, Xander Schauffele – Hovland is really building for the future and has nothing to lose here. Koepka is still among the best players in the world and could win at any point. Schauffele, the Olympic gold medalist, hopes to get himself into good position this week because everyone knows how good he is at East Lake.
