Just one week away from the beginning of the TOUR Championship, every stroke means more this week at Caves Valley in the 2021 BMW Championship. Only 30 golfers will advance, so a big move will be required from most guys.

This article will take a look at the biggest movers in the projected FedEx Cup standings.

Risers

Rory McIlroy – McIlroy, a two-time FedEx Cup champion, knows what it takes to dominate this time of year. An opening round 64 has McIlroy tied for the lead and sitting at No. 4 in the projected FedEx Cup standings.

Sergio Garcia – After missing the cut last week, Garcia bounced back in a big way on Thursday. A 7-under par first round has the Spaniard sitting at No. 26 in the projected standings.

Sebastián Muñoz – Muñoz, who recorded a handful of high finishes towards the end of the season, positioned himself well to make a run at a TOUR Championship berth. An opening 5-under par has Muñoz at No. 36 in the projected standings, just outside the cutoff.

Fallers

Cameron Tringale – Perhaps the best golfer on tour to not record a win, Tringale will most likely have to wait at least a few more weeks. A 1-over par performance has Tringale in a tie for 63rd and brings him down to No. 45 in the projected standings.

Cam Davis – Just like Tringale, Davis was just outside the top-30 cutoff for the TOUR Championship entering Thursday. But a similar 1-over par opening round moves the Aussie down to No. 46 in the projected standings.

Shane Lowry – Lowry has always stepped up in the biggest tournaments, but a 1-under par performance on Thursday has the Irishman seven shots outside the lead. Despite a solid performance, carding just one bogey, Lowry fell from No. 47 to No. 55 in the projected standings. More late round magic will be necessary if Lowry wants to advance to the final event of the season.
