Tour Championship: Jon Rahm in Solid Position Through 36 Holes
By Tim Letcher
Heading into the Tour Championship, nearly all of the talk in the media was about the two players at the top of the FedEx Cup standings. After a duel last week at the BMW Championship, many thought that the battle at East Lake would come down to Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau.
Through two rounds, the Tour Championship has turned into a two-man race. But it’s not between Cantlay and DeChambeau.

Cantlay is there, on top of the leaderboard through 36 holes. He started the week with a two-shot lead and he has been able to hang onto that advantage. Cantlay shot 67 on Thursday and came back with a 66 on Friday. He’s 17-under par halfway through the event.
DeChambeau, however, has fallen back. He started the week at 7-under par, three shots behind Cantlay. But the long-hitting DeChambeau managed just a 69 on Thursday, followed by a 67 on Friday. He’s at 11-under par through two rounds and is six shots behind Cantlay.
Instead of DeChambeau pushing Cantlay, it’s actually Jon Rahm. The Spaniard has actually shot the best scores so far this week at East Lake.
Rahm has been consistently good through two rounds.
On Thursday, Rahm had seven birdies and two bogeys on his way to a 5-under par round of 65. That enabled him to make up half of the four-shot deficit he faced entering the event.
Then on Friday, Rahm continued to chip away at Cantlay’s lead. He had six birdies on Friday, including birdies on the 16th, 17th and 18th holes, to shoot another 65. Rahm sits at 16-under par through two rounds, just one shot behind Cantlay.
Rahm has been the best player on tour all season long and he’s proving it again this week. He’s in solid position with two rounds to play and, in all reality, is probably the favorite with two rounds left in the Tour Championship.
