Regardless of how Harris English performed at the FedEx Cup TOUR Championship, he deserves one of the captain’s picks for the upcoming Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits.

English finished the TOUR Championship at 6 under, which will likely be a Top-25 finish — his 12th of the season. Considering the “super season,” which so many are, would give him his 26th top-25.

He also has eight top-10s in 2021 and 14 in the super season — oh, and two wins this season.

English keeps playing some of the great golf and even came extremely close to qualifying.

Though some still think he isn’t long enough for Whistling Straits, others don’t see him as a Ryder Cup person in general, but he would make an excellent addition to Team USA.

He doesn’t have to be as long as the qualifiers on the team already — English needs to be long enough.

English averages 299.3 yards off the tee, which isn’t in the top-20 regarding the PGA Tour, but it’s still plenty long on a track like Whistling Straits.

He has to be smart about where he places his shots, and English is methodical about where he hits the ball.

What makes English an even better choice is his ability to scramble around the golf course.

Before the Tour Championship, English ranked No. 9 in scrambling at 64.11% and 16th in scrambling from the fringe at 95.92%.

From greater than 30 yards out, English ranks third on the PGA Tour at 42.11% and is fifth from 20-30 yards at 73.74%.

While length is a great attribute to have, match play comes down to being able to score. English ranks 10th in strokes gained putting at .569.

He one-putts 42.93% of the time, which is fifth on the PGA Tour.

English is solid, making 9.24% of putts greater than 25-feet, which is fourth on Tour.

He averages 82’11 distance of putts each week, which is the second-best on Tour behind J.T. Poston.

English ranks ninth in the PGA in birdie average at 4.31 and has 379 birdies on the season.

The greens are where English will shine. Whistling Straits has bentgrass greens, and English loves bentgrass. Not to mention, he plays excellent on them.

English isn’t the most known guy on Tour, but he is slowly emerging as someone who can contend. As good as English has played this year, why not give him a chance to play for his country?

He can be electric when he wants to be, and he is an excellent putter. English may not be a bomber off the tee, but he can hang with the best of them.

I mean, making a 224-yard ace at the Tour Championship is pretty impressive. He can make essential shots, and with how well English is playing right now, he could be the guy to help get the win for Team USA.

If he didn’t lose the WGC event, English wouldn’t have people doubting him, and while I get that, it’s silly to take into account one tournament when he has played well at so many others.

Put some respect on English’s name, he isn’t going anywhere any time soon, and should be on the Ryder Cup team.
