Who Should Steve Stricker Pick for Final Ryder Cup Spot?
By Tim Letcher
United States Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker will make his captain’s pick for the 2021 U.S. side on Wednesday. He’s got several good options from which to make his six picks.
It appears that Stricker has all but made five of his selections. According to Golf Digest, the seventh through 10th players in the U.S. standings will all be part of the team.

That means Stricker will add Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth and Harris English to his automatic qualifiers. Those six players are Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay.
According to Golf Digest, it appears that Daniel Berger will also be a captain’s pick. Berger is 12th in the standings and 18th in the Official World Golf Rankings, so he would be a solid choice.
Stricker will have one spot left on the team and a number of good options from which to choose.
Patrick Reed, by the numbers, would be the 12th choice. Despite his 7-3-2 Ryder Cup record, Reed might disrupt team chemistry, so he’s probably out.
Webb Simpson would add a lot of experience to the team. He’s 13th in the standings as the choices are made and will definitely be someone that Stricker considers.
If the U.S. captain decides to go younger, he’s got a couple of very good options.
Scottie Scheffler was the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year last season and has shown the ability to step up on big moments. The former Texas Longhorn would be a solid choice.
Stricker could also go with Sam Burns. The former LSU Tiger has had a solid year on tour, including his first PGA Tour victory.
It’s a tough decision for sure for Stricker. The guess here is that the U.S. captain will go with Scheffler. The world will know for sure on Wednesday.
