Billy Horschel isn’t afraid to speak his mind, and when he has an opinion, he will tell people. He did just that after the third round of the BMW PGA Championship, as he is in contention to win the tournament.

He is two shots behind the 54-hole leader Francesco Laporta. Horschel was extremely pleased with his 69 on the day that included six birdies.

After his round, during his interview, Horschel talked about tournaments he would like the win, like any of the major championships and the unofficial fifth major in the Players Championship.

However, those comments weren’t what perked up a bunch of people. It was what Horschel said after that.  Most American’s aren’t worried about winning a European Tour event. If they play in one, there is usually some kind of money involved, or sometimes they just enjoy it.

Horschel is one of those guys who love European Tour events, especially this one. He first played in this event two years ago and loved the golf course.

He told the reporters that winning the BMW PGA Championship would be the equivalent of winning a Players Championship.

Shocking, right — Not really if you think about it because it is one of the European Tour’s biggest events. If Horschel were to win, then he would be the first American to do so.

Not everyone will understand where Horschel is coming from when he says this, but he compliments the event for being top-notch, welcoming, and giving credit where it’s due. We all know the PGA Tour reigns over the world in professional golf, but it says something when a European Tour can put together an event like this.

Other quality events are happening in Europe that isn’t labeled as the Open Championship. I’m sure many golf people know this, but the fact that Horschel complimenting the BMW PGA is shocking tells me that they disagree. I  don’t think he is being disrespectful to the Players Championship at all.

The BMW PGA Championship deserves to be complimented like this, and Horschel isn’t afraid to let the world know.  If he feels like the event is played on a quality course like TPC Sawgrass, he can 100% say how he feels. While it makes be shocking to some that he feels this way, he is just showing the world how much class he has.
