2021 Ryder Cup: Which Player is Most Likely To …
By Tim Letcher
There are 24 players in the Ryder Cup this week at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin, all with varying strengths and weaknesses. Below are the players most likely to do “blank” this week.
Most likely to annoy other side (American) – Bryson DeChambeau. With no Patrick Reed, this honor, or dishonor, falls to DeChambeau, who could be just the player to get under the skin of the Euros.
Most likely to annoy other side (European) – Ian Poulter. While teammate Sergio Garcia would also be a good choice, Poulter seems to annoy the Americans like no other. His fiery style makes him very easy to dislike.

Most likely to throw a club (American) – Justin Thomas. When he gets upset with himself, Thomas can get really fired up. The Americans are hoping that does not happen this week.
Most likely to throw a club (European) – This is easy. Tyrrell Hatton. There are some individuals in this competition who may become upset at themselves, or at someone else, but no one out of the 24 does it like Hatton does. His volatility is part of his charm.
Most likely to have an impact as a rookie (American) – Xander Schauffele. He doesn’t seem like he should be a Ryder Cup rookie, but this is his first one. Expect Schauffele to have a big impact on the American side this week.
Most likely to have an impact as a rookie (European) – Shane Lowry. Another player who doesn’t seem like he is playing in his first Ryder Cup, but Lowry is, indeed. He’s a solid player who should fit right in with the European side.
Most likely to have an impact as a veteran (American) – Jordan Spieth. He’s one of the few Americans who actually has a winning record in this event. And now that his game has rounded back into form, it would be easy to see Spieth having a big week, especially paired with buddy Justin Thomas.
Most likely to have an impact as a veteran (European) – Sergio Garcia. No player in the history of this event has claimed more points than Garcia. And, bad news for the Americans, he’s back to playing well again. Look for Sergio to have a big week for the Euros.
Most likely to fold under pressure (American) – Scottie Scheffler. He has shown that he can play well in majors but the Ryder Cup is another level of pressure. Will the young American be up for the challenge?
Most likely to fold under pressure (European) – Bernd Wiesberger. On a team full of veterans with Ryder Cup experience, Wiesberger appears to be the only one who may have no idea what he’s getting into this week.
