The 43rd Ryder Cup is set to get underway on Friday at long last and perhaps one of the biggest questions yet to be answered revolves around the pairings for the opening day on Friday. The pairings for day one will be announced on Thursday night around the time that the opening ceremony is set to take place.

Perhaps the biggest point of contention heading into this Ryder Cup has revolved around the Bryson DeChambeau/Brooks Koepka feud and how it will impact the American team throughout the competition. U.S. team captain Steve Stricker has already downplayed the impact the friction between the two stars will play, and he also suggested that they are unlikely to be paired together for the opening sessions when he spoke to the media on Monday.

It looks like Scottie Scheffler will be the most likely partner for DeChambeau going into the Ryder Cup but if captain Stricker really wanted to shake things up there is a strong argument to be made that pairing Koepka and Bryson from the very beginning is exactly what he should do. Not only would the action send already high tv ratings through the roof, but it could also really work in team USA’s favor moving forward throughout the competition. Can you imagine if the two started out well, the force they could be throughout the weekend?.

There is no doubt that the strife between two of the U.S.’s biggest stars has been a massive distraction for months and months now, and it has been a massive point of contention especially heading into this Ryder Cup. The team has talked about how the two have put all of this behind them heading into this week, and Bryson himself suggested on Tuesday during his press conference with the media that the pair had even had dinner together this week.

While all of this may be true, one sure way to put all of this to bed would be to send the two of them out together from the very beginning. Even legendary professional Dame Laura Davies suggested this would be what she would do as captain of the U.S. when she told Golfweek:

"In fact, one of the features I did was if I was Steve Stricker what would my Friday morning foursomes be, and I put them together. There was a little bit of devilment in it, see what would happen. I actually think their games would be suited in foursomes. They’re both strong guys who like to hit drivers and try to overpower golf courses."

The two would compliment each other’s game nicely indeed. As Davies suggested, they both are terrific drivers of the golf ball, in 2021 DeChambeau ranked number one in strokes gained off the tee while Koepka ranked inside of the top ten as well at seventh overall. They both are terrific with their irons, and though Koepka can struggle with the putter from time to time, that is an area that Bryson excels in as he ranked inside of the top twenty in strokes gained putting in 2021 as well.

Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau should be sent out as a team by Stricker on Friday. They would complement each other’s games nicely, could catch the Europeans off-guard from the beginning, could ignite the competition from the start, and most importantly could quash this seemingly never-ending drama right from the start.
