Zalatoris Shoots Course Record at Country Club of Jackson
Will Zalatoris is already catching fire. During the second round of the Sanderson Farms Championship, he shot an 11-under 61. Yes, you read that correctly.
The greens looked like the Gulf of Mexico for Zalatoris on Friday, hitting nearly every green. He gave himself a ton of chances and was able to convert on basically all of them, having a squeaky clean card of 11 birdies and not a single bogey.

“The days where I make 20-footers, those are the days that I end up putting a great round together, because I’m always going to be the guy that’s going to hit 14 plus greens to give myself a chance,” Zalatoris said.
He did pretty much everything right on Friday. His record setting round brought him into a tie for the lead at 13-under par with Sahith Theegala and Nick Watney, heading into Saturday.
Will Zalatoris made a strong case last year that he’s the next young, American superstar in golf. Putting it lightly, he had a brekaout year in 2021. He did win the rookie of the year on the PGA Tour. Eight top tens in 25 starts, including T6th at the 2020 US Open, runner up at The Masters, and T8th at the PGA Championship.
Zalatrois did all of that without even having full status on the PGA Tour. Obviously he was able to earn his tour card based on the way he played last year. He’s already looking to get himself rolling early in the 2022 season.
It’s abundantly clear that the 25-year old from San Francisco has the entire golf world on notice. He’s got rookie of the year, he’s top 10s in majors, that leaves the next step, his first win.
I fully expect him to make a ton of noise this year. He’ll be in the mix for a major or two, I do firmly believe that, but let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. I think he wins this week in Jackson, Mississippi. Which will be the first of likely many PGA Tour wins for the former Wake Forest Demon Deacon.
It’s two rounds down, two rounds to go. Zalatoris knows what he needs to do to secure his first title. Knowing what to do is one thing, doing it is a totally different story.
I think Zalatoris is on the verge of showing us the kind of staying power he really has. The kid is such a rock solid player, and evidently, he has some of the big time killer instinct on the course to be able to shoot a 61. He’s a special talent, just now starting to realize his potential.
I’m excited to see how he plays this year. If the golf world doesn’t already know, it shouldn’t take long for them to know the name Will Zalatoris.
