Robert Streb had one of those days on Thursday at the CJ Cup. His round got off to an amazing start, one that’s rarely seen on the PGA Tour.

Streb opened his round in fine fashion. On the par-4 first hole, he drove his ball in the fairway, then hit his approach shot to about seven feet. He made the birdie putt to get into red figures.

On the par-3 second hole, Streb stuck his tee shot about six feet from the cup. He made the birdie putt to get to 2-under.

Then at the par-5 third hole, Streb saw the beginnings of what could be a truly special round. He drove it in the fairway, then hit his second shot to about 12 feet from the hole. He would roll in the eagle putt to get to 4-under through three holes.

But wait, there’s more.

At the par-4 fourth hole, Streb again drove it in the fairway. His approach shot was not quite as good, leaving him just inside 20 feet for birdie. It did not matter, as the red-hot Streb made the putt to get to 5-under par.

Then on the par-4 fifth, Streb again hit the fairway. His second shot came to rest about four feet from the cup. And, you guessed it, he made the putt to get to 6-under par through five holes.

On the par-5 sixth hole, Streb drove it in the fairway again, then hit his approach just short of the green. He pitched it to about two feet, then made another birdie, getting to 7-under par.

At the par-3 seventh hole, Streb hit his tee shot to inside 15 feet. But he was unable to make that birdie putt and he would stay at 7-under par through seven holes.

Streb would close his front nine with three straight pars to shoot a 7-under par 29.

After a bogey at the 11th hole, Streb would birdie the 12th,13th and 14th holes to get to 9-under par on his round. The 59 watch was officially on.

A par on the 15th hole made the task tougher, but Streb bounced back with a birdie on the 16th to get to 10-under. He would need to play the final two holes in three under to shoot 59.

He parred the 17th and birdied the 18th to close out his round of 61. When he finished, Streb led by four shots.
