2021 CJ Cup: Winners and Losers from Las Vegas
By Tim Letcher
Each week on the PGA Tour, there are players who exceed expectations and those who fall short of what is expected of them. Here at Pro Golf Now, we call them winners and losers. Here are the winners and losers from this week’s CJ Cup.
Winners
Rory McIlroy – He won for the 20th time on the PGA Tour by rallying on Sunday. His 6-under par 66, following his 62 on Saturday, moved him into the top spot yet again. McIlroy is truly one of the legends of the game and he continues to prove that each year.

Collin Morikawa – He opened with rounds of 67 and 70 and was not really in the mix through 36 holes. But a 65-62 weekend moved him all the way up to second place. If he plays the rest of the season like he did this weekend, look out.
Rickie Fowler – Sure, he did not convert the win on Sunday, shooting a 71 after leading by two entering the day. But, if you had said at the beginning of the week that Fowler would finish T3, it would have been a win. That’s already higher than any finish he had last season.
Keith Mitchell – For three rounds, Mitchell was really good. It was that Saturday 73 that cost him a chance at winning. However, a T3 finish is a very good one for Mitchell.
Sam Burns – He remains arguably the hottest player in the game. Burns quietly shot four rounds in the 60s and finished T5. He remains at the top of the early FedEx Cup standings.
Losers
Charl Schwartzel – He was the only player to not shoot a round in the 60s this week. The former Masters champion did not break par in any of his four rounds, finishing a whopping 32 strokes behind McIlroy.
Si Woo Kim – It was an ugly week for Kim, who had just one round in the 60s while others were torching this course. He finished 76th out of 78 players.
Max Homa – It just wasn’t Homa’s week. He opened with a 67 but followed that with 70, 70, 75 to finish in a tie for 72nd place.
Patrick Reed – He continues to struggle early this season. Reed finished T68 with only a Friday 66 saving him from finishing lower.
Charley Hoffman – Only one round in the 60s this week for Hoffman, as he finished T68. He has certainly been better.
