People may think I pick on Sung Kang sometimes. I promise I’m not picking on him, he just tends to do some wild things during his rounds. He did that again on Thursday at the Zozo Championship.

There was the time that Kang made an 11 on a par four. Or the time when he had four double bogeys in the span of seven holes. These are certainly noteworthy accomplishments, not me picking on Kang.

Thursday at Narashino Country Club started off great for Kang. He opened with a birdie on the par-4 first hole. He followed that with a birdie on the par-4 second hole.

Kang kept the birdie train rolling on the third hole with a birdie at the par three. Suddenly, he was 3-under par through three holes. It had the early makings of a special day.

But Kang being Kang, things came crashing down very quickly.

On the par-4 fourth hole, Kang suffered his first bogey of the day. Then on the par-3 fifth hole, he carded a double bogey. The hot start was erased in a matter of two holes and Kang was back to even par.

He would bogey the ninth hole to finish his front nine with a 1-over par 35. That was tough to take after starting with three straight birdies.

On the back nine, things quickly went from bad to worse for Kang. At the par-4 10th hole, he suffered a triple-bogey seven. That dropped him to 4-over par just seven holes after being 3-under par. It was quite a turnaround for Kang.

He would actually par the final eight holes to shoot a 4-over par 74. That left Kang in a tie for 68th place out of 78 golfers in this week’s field. It was certainly a round that Kang let get away from him.
