2021 Zozo Championship: Is This the Week for Cameron Tringale?
By Tim Letcher
It’s been well documented that Cameron Tringale has never won on the PGA Tour. Again this week, Tringale finds himself in the hunt, this time at the Zozo Championship in Japan.
To go over the particulars once again, Tringale is playing in his 314th PGA Tour event this week. He has never won on tour. That’s more than 12 years of full-time playing on tour without a victory.

Don’t get me wrong – Tringale has not struggled. He has done very well for himself. Just look at the numbers. The veteran has won more than $14 million on tour. So don’t feel sorry for Tringale by any means.
However, as a competitor, he would love to get over that hump, especially so people like me would quit talking about it. He’s been close before.
Tringale has finished second three times on tour. The first came at the Barclays in 2014. In 2015, he finished second to Justin Rose at the Zurich Classic. And in 2016, he finished T2 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Since then, his best finish has been third place, which he has done three times over the last two years. Last season, Tringale was third at the RSM Classic and T3 at the Valspar.
Now, he’s got another chance to get the monkey off his back.
Tringale opened the Zozo with a 67 on Thursday. Then on Friday, in tough weather conditions, he did one better.
Playing the back nine first, Tringale had three birdies to go out in 33. On his second nine, he made a bogey at the fourth hole but bounced back with birdies at the sixth and ninth holes to finish with a 4-under par 66.
Tringale is currently one shot behind Japan’s own Hideki Matsuyama. But he’s in the hunt with 36 holes to play.
Beating Matsuyama in Japan will be a tall task. But perhaps this is the week that it all comes together for Tringale.
