Rory McIlroy Trashes Shirt After Loss in Dubai
Rory McIlroy was running up front at the DP World Tour Championship out in Dubai, and then Sunday happened. He ended his tournament with a two over round on Sunday, finishing in a tie for 6th as Collin Morikawa left the United Arab Emirates with the trophy.
Rory’s frustrations after his round were evident. Photos emerged of McIlroy with his shirt being ripped from near his right sleeve all the way up to his collar.

This is far from the first time McIlroy has taken out his anger in public, including during rounds. He’s snapped a club in half before, and no one can forget when he chucked one of his irons into that pond at Doral, he got some great distance on it by the way.
Personally, I don’t have any real issue with this. I love to see this kind of emotion from players. Show me who you are, don’t be some weird robotic android of a man that people who aren’t fans of golf stereotype you as.
Rory McIlroy isn’t some puppet or part of the droid army from Star Wars. He shows emotion, he’s very outspoken, no matter what he’s feeling. His post-round interview his Ryder Cup match will always come to mind for me when I think of him. It was so obvious how much the Ryder Cup meant to him, almost breaking down into tears talking about it. I LOVED it. The passion, the emotion, all of it.
Seeing the pictures of McIlroy’s shirt in tatters might rub some people the wrong way. For me, it does not, and some of his peers feel the same.
Justin Thomas took to Twitter to show his support for his fellow competitor. “I love this. (@McIlroyRory) works his ass off and expects highly of himself, and is frustrated when it doesn’t go well. Never treats people with disrespect, never makes a fool of himself, just plays with fire and passion. Why he’s as successful and he is and one of my favorites.” Thomas said.
That’s some high, high praise from another major champion and another one of the best in the world.
Rory’s fire has always been there on the course, we really haven’t gotten a look at him post-round after not winning a tournament that he was seemingly in control of. It’s a window into the reality that he has that same fire off the course as he does on. When you see him, and you see how he carries himself, it’s really him.
Golf is better when Rory McIlroy is around and contending on Sundays. Along with his high level of play, his emotion when he’s firing on all cylinders is so satisfying and fun to watch. Keep being you Rory, I can’t wait to see the joy on his face when he finally gets that career grand slam, getting the green jacket put on his shoulders.
