2. Justin Thomas

Best Case: Justin Thomas, who is inspired by Tiger Woods’ return, channels his inner Tiger and absolutely stripes the ball around Augusta National. His streak of gaining strokes with his approach shots in consecutive events continues, and this time the putter comes along for the ride. Thomas vanquishes the bad memories from last year when a few bad holes ruined his chances after a weather delay, he writes a new script this time.

Worst Case: Thomas struggles to keep the ball in play off the tee, when he does find greens in regulation the putter gives him fits, and the big cats’ mere presence is too much of a distraction for JT this week. JT astonishingly misses the cut for the first time at the Masters and he spends the rest of the week cheering on Tiger Woods with the rest of us.

3. Scottie Scheffler

Best Case: Scheffler continues his historic year and wins his first major. He uses the experience he garnered in his previous two starts at the Masters to his advantage and this in combination with his red hot form proves to be a lethal combination. Scottie hits fairways all week and his lag-putting continues to be a real strength on the tricky Augusta greens. In the end, he proves once again to be too tough to beat and continues to show why he is the world’s number one player.

Worst Case: Winning for a second consecutive time proves to be just a bit too much. Scheffler struggles with inaccuracies off the tee, and while he was able to get away with it at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, it proves costly at Augusta. Scheffler hits one from the pines on the 11th hole on Sunday, the contact isn’t quite right, and the ball ends up in the water essentially ending his chances.

The 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational winner finishes in 18th at Augusta for the second consecutive year, it is at this point and time that he decides to banish the number from his presence as he no longer acknowledges 18’s existence.
