It’s no surprise that the two hottest players are playing in the final group at the Masters. After 54 holes, Scottie Scheffler holds a three-shot lead over Cam Smith.

Scheffler, who started the day with a five-shot lead, saw his lead move up to six, but a couple of bogeys on his inward nine saw his lead dwindle to three heading into Sunday. Despite a few hiccups, Scheffler seems well on his way to capturing his first career major.

Scheffler rose to number one in the World Golf Rankings after a win a couple of weeks ago in Austin, as he has picked up three wins since February. With that said, it’s no surprise to see him in this position.

Cameron Smith is hot on Scheffler’s heels at the Masters

However, chasing Scheffler is the second hottest player on tour, Cam Smith. Since the New Year, the Aussie has racked up two wins, including at the Players Championship a month ago.

After a rough round on Friday, Smith pulled it together and shot the day’s low round putting him at -6, three behind Scheffler.

Some other golfers in the mix are Sunjae Im, who bounced back nicely after an opening double bogey to shoot a one-under-par 71 to sit five back of the lead at -4.

2011 Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel, who had the shot of the day at 10, and 2019 Open Champion Shane Lowry, sit at -2, while Justin Thomas and Canadian Corey Connors sit at -1. In total, there are only seven golfers under par.

The conditions were harsh in the third round as the average score was above par for the day. Multiple golfers, including Tiger Woods and Patrick Cantlay, put together rounds in the high seventies.

The conditions are expected to get slightly better on Sunday, and this should make for an exciting finish as we look to see who will dawn the Green Jacket in 2022.
