2022 RBC Heritage: Top 10 Power Rankings At Harbour Town
Save for a couple years when Jordan Spieth’s game was in the wilderness, he’s played well at the RBC Heritage.
The Texan debuted at Harbour Town with a T-9th finish in his rookie season in 2013. He continued to play well the next two years, producing a T-12th and T-11th.
Spieth failed to crack the top 20 in 2019 or 2020 but still made both cuts. He skipped this event in 2021.
The 28-year-old is coming off a disappointing missed cut at last week’s Masters. He hasn’t been on his game in 2022, but Augusta National is somewhere Spieth usually finds a way to grind out good scores.
Not the case this time.
Prior to the Masters, Spieth made four of his previous five, stroke-play cuts.
His best finish of the year was second place at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Statistically speaking, up has been down, and down has been up with Spieth’s game this season. Normally an elite putter, he’s 180th in strokes gained putting (-.397). What’s keeping him in the top 20 in the world rankings is solid ball striking and scrambling.
Spieth isn’t hitting it as well as we’ve seen him, but sitting 41st (.684) in SG tee to green is far from his main concern. He’s giving himself chances, they just aren’t rolling in.
One would expect him to revert to the mean with the flat stick eventually.
For many years Spieth has come into this event off of some sort of emotional roller coaster, whether good or bad.
This time, he can kick back and relax at this resort. With more energy to focus on the Heritage and move on from last week, I see Spieth getting his groove back.
