Scottie Scheffler is on a roll this week in Texas, can anyone catch him, or is the Charles Schwab Challenge all but done and dusted for 2022?

The World’s number one player is back to his very best so far this week in Texas. A week after missing the cut in the year’s second Major Scottie Scheffler is once again on top of a leaderboard.

Scheffler will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge at the historic Colonial Country Club on Sunday as he looks to secure win number five on the season.

The way this year has gone for Scheffler can be described like a dormant volcano that has finally erupted.

It was only a matter of time before the talented young player was going to breakthrough for his first PGA win, but did anyone really envision this type of early success? this type of dominance?.

The 25-year-old has five top 10 finishes in his last eight starts, and four of those were of course wins.

He is on the charge again this week, so the question is can anyone deny him win number five this weekend? and who would be most likely to do so if the almost unthinkable were to happen?.

Three players that can catch Scottie Scheffler on Sunday….maybe..

According to Data Golf Scottie Scheffler has a 54.8% chance of locking in win number five come Sunday evening. Scheffler, who hadn’t made a bogey all week until his 17th hole on Saturday, has been almost flawless so far.

He leads the field in strokes gained tee to green for the week and has gained positive strokes across the board.

All of that is not a great sign for the rest of the field, but alas there still remains a slimmer of hope that he could potentially come back to the field during the final round.

Harold Varner III

HV3 has shown that he has the potential to win on the PGA Tour, and chances are, that win will likely come sometime soon.

Varner won for the second time in his career earlier this year at the PIF Saudi International where he beat out big names such as Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Joaquin Niemann, Cameron Smith, and Xander Schauffele to the title.

He is given a 7.8% chance to win and will begin his final round three shots behind Scottie Scheffler. HV3 isn’t one of the names directly behind the leader going into the final round, but he is the one that is more likely to spring a surprise if Scheffler were to slip up.

Harold was 6th at the Players Championship, 3rd at the RBC Heritage just a few starts ago, and put in a good showing through two rounds at Southern Hills last week before eventually fading away on Saturday and Sunday.

Patrick Reed

Reed demonstrating signs of getting back to his best will likely bring out mixed feelings from fans as he has been one of the more controversial characters on Tour in recent years.

Either way, the 2018 Masters winner has seemingly turned a corner after a period of time when he clearly was not at his best.

Reed has made five of his last six cuts on Tour, this coming after a period when he missed three consecutive cuts and hadn’t recorded a top 30 finish since the Sentry Tournament Of Champions at the beginning of the year.

Patrick is given a slim chance of coming away with the win at Colonial this week with a less than 3% chance of winning. He begins the final round four shots back but is one of the few players who has experience of coming through in big moments throughout his career.

The 31-year-old is fifth-best in the field in strokes gained tee to green this week and he has gained strokes in every area so far this week.

Jordan Spieth

It is a big ask of Spieth to come from six shots back to win on Sunday, but he is one of the few players in the field who would be capable of such a feat.

Jordan has the experience and prior success at Colonial to draw upon in order to produce something special. His record around Colonial is quite remarkable with seven top 10 finishes or better in nine appearances.

The 2022 RBC Heritage winner will need to be more accurate with his iron play to mount a comeback on Sunday, but if anyone is capable of succeeding in a seemingly impossible situation it is Jordan Spieth.
