Tony Finau is 3-for-3 making the cut at the 3M Open with three top-30s and a T-3rd in 2020.

He knew right away in 2019 that TPC Twin Cities was a great venue for his game.

“It was soft and it was long and I don’t mind that,” Finau was transcribed by Tee Scripts. “There’s some beast of holes out there and this is a beast of a golf course. Fairways aren’t playing firm, so some of those 500-yard holes you’re hitting into the wind today and mid irons in there, 5-irons, 6-irons, 7-irons. So not really the clubs I’m used to hitting in on par 4s, but I did like the look of it when I first saw it.”

He was in contention down to the end in 2020 and finished three shots back after rounds of 65-66-69-68. Finau led the field in strokes gained approach for the week (9.706).

The big Utahn is in solid form of late.

Finau’s coming off T-28th at The Open Championship, his fifth top-30 in the last six starts. That stretch includes T-4th at the Charles Schwab Challenge and second at the RBC Canadian Open.

He also has a co-runner-up finish at the Mexico Open at Vidanta.

On the season, the 32-year-old is 13th in SG tee to green per round (1.3). He’s 21st in SG off the tee (.494) and will be able to use his length to his advantage attacking a usually soft course with generous fairways.

Putting is his bugaboo, but TPC Twin Cities’ greens aren’t too tough to tame, especially after dealing with St. Andrews last week.
