Sungjae Im is peaking at the right time to contend for the FedEx Cup title. He’s been a resident of the Atlanta area for a couple years now and ought to be ready to get back to East Lake.

But that’s getting ahead of ourselves.

The South Korean is focused on the task at hand this week at the BMW Championship. Im was a winner this season at the Shriners Children’s Open. That was almost a full year ago and he’s due for another.

Im made his fourth straight cut in a row last week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Scores of 70-68-63-69 netted him solo 12th.

He led the field in Memphis in strokes gained off the tee (4.723).

Im just was not able to muster up enough close birdie tries to contend on Sunday.

He hit 71.43% of fairways (T-7th) and 70.83% greens in regulation (T-9th).

On the season, the 24-year-old in per-round stats ranks seventh in total SG (1.694) and eighth in SG around the green (.433). He’s 51st or better in every SG category.

This is the time of the year when players begin to get exhausted. Im may be one of them, but at least he’s used to the grind of playing a lot of tournaments.

He’s taken a bit more time off in 2022. It’s deserved, given his success through three seasons on the PGA Tour.

Perhaps he’ll be fresh to get through the finish line strong and try to become the first Asian player to win the FedEx Cup.
