After months of anticipation, The Masters ushered in the 2025 major season as the best golfers on the planet came together once again for the first of this year's four major championships.

Coming into the week, much of the conversation was centered around Rory McIlroy and whether or not this would finally be the year he slipped on the famous Green Jacket in Butler Cabin.

The four-time major champion came into this year's Masters hoping to finally end a 10-plus-year drought in major championships, with the Northern Irishman's last triumph coming at the 2014 PGA Championship.

With the career Grand Slam in his sights, McIlroy opened his Masters with an even-par round of 72 before making up significant ground with a 6-under 66 during the second round.

Another sensational round of 66 on Moving Day meant Rory would sleep on an overnight lead as he looked to finally break through in the event that means so much to him.

With multiple major winners looking to close the gap during the final round, McIlroy would hope to continue his exceptional play over the final 18 holes.

Whether it was McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, or any other member of the talented group of chasers who will don the Green Jacket come Sunday evening, whoever emerged victorious would not only be able to call themselves a major champion but also would collect a handsome amount of prize money.

How much does The Masters champion earn? Let's take a look at this year's record-breaking prize purse, the winner's share, and the payout breakdown by finishing position for the first major championship of the year.

The Masters purse 2025: Total purse and winner's prize money

The Masters will divvy out a record-breaking purse of $21 million in 2025, with this year's champion earning a whopping $4.2 million.

This is an increase from last year's purse of $20 million, and it marks the fourth year in a row that Chairman Fred Ridley and Augusta National Golf Club have increased The Masters purse.

Additionally, The Masters has increased the winner's share by $600,000 from the $3.6 million in prize money that Scottie Scheffler earned after winning the coveted Green Jacket for a second time last year.

The 2025 Masters will rank on the high end amongst prize purses this year, besting the large amounts at Signature Events on the PGA Tour and the prize money divvied out at individual LIV Golf events.

This is all reflected in the prize distribution, with every golfer who finishes inside the top four taking home seven figures. That's an increase from last year, with only the top three earning seven figures. Additionally, the top 37 finishers will take home at least six figures.

Excluding the five amateurs who competed in the 89th edition of The Masters, every player in the 95-man field will take home prize money.

Outside of the top 50 finishers at The Masters, the remainder of the professionals who made the cut at Augusta National will earn prize money starting at $51,660 and descending. Meanwhile, those who failed to make the cut will still earn a nice bonus of $25,000.
