The final leaderboard at Muirfield Village on Sunday may seem to indicate that Scottie Scheffler ran away with the 2025 Memorial Tournament. But that actually wasn't the case at all, as everyone else in contention simply faded away.
Nevertheless, with a steady final-round 70, the world No. 1 became the first player to go back-to-back at the Memorial since Tiger Woods took the title at Jack's Place three straight times from 1999 to 2001.
Scheffler has now won 16 times on the PGA Tour, which is remarkable, seeing as how his first victory was less than three and a half years ago in February 2022. He'll now head to the U.S. Open at Oakmont in a couple of weeks, having won three of his last four starts.
Entering the final round with a one-shot advantage over the second-hottest player on the planet right now, Ben Griffin, Scheffler went out in 1-under 35, making eight pars and adding a birdie at the par-5 seventh.
Griffin, meanwhile, had a much more active scorecard to start his Sunday, making a bogey at the first before bouncing back with a birdie at the second. He then bogeyed the par-3 fourth but once again came right back with a birdie at the par-5 fifth before closing his opening nine with four consecutive pars.
Griffin pulled back to within one when Scheffler bogeyed the 10th, only to once again fall two behind when Scottie birdied the 11th.
Griffin then fell four back with bogeys at 12 and 13, thus seemingly handing Scheffler the trophy, but made things a bit more interesting with an eagle at the par-5 15th (which Scottie birdied) and a birdie at the par-3 16th, getting himself back within two.
But a double bogey at the 17th derailed Griffin's hopes of back-to-back wins, and Scheffler ultimately cruised to victory with four straight pars to close out his day, finishing at 10-under for the week to collect the $4 million first-place prize.
Griffin made a solid par at the last to finish in solo second at 6-under, adding $2.2 million to his bank account. Sepp Straka had another fantastic week, taking third at 5-under to earn $1.4 million, while Nick Taylor also took home seven figures, collecting an even $1 million for a solo fourth at 4-under.
