We're now officially less than four months away from the 2025 Ryder Cup and less than three months from knowing who the six automatic qualifiers will be for Bethpage Black for both the U.S. and European teams.

The last event in which U.S. players can gain points is the second leg of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup Playoffs, the BMW Championship, which concludes August 17. The last day for European players to gain points is August 24, which marks the conclusion of the DP World Tour's Betfred British Masters.

And once the six automatic spots are filled, of course, captains Keegan Bradley and Luke Donald will then add six selections apiece to their respective squads.

So, let's have a look at the standings for each side as we near the end of May.

United States Ryder Cup standings

Coming out of the PGA Championship, the top six in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings, in order, were Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, and Russell Henley.

And heading into this week's Signature Event, Jack Nicklaus' famed Memorial Tournament, the top six is exactly the same, the only difference being that Scheffler, who was the only one of the six to tee it up at the Charles Schwab Challenge, has extended his lead at the top by earning 427.5 points after tying for fourth at Colonial.

Naturally, the biggest move of the week in the top 25 on the U.S. side of things was made by Ben Griffin, who jumped from 18th to 13th in the standings with his win at the Charles Schwab, his first solo win on the PGA Tour.

Griffin is now just 11.97 points behind Patrick Cantlay for 12th.

There has been a lot of chatter about Bradley possibly using a captain's pick on himself, but he's been adamant that he will not include himself as a player unless he qualifies automatically. But to make that a reality, Keegan will need to make something happen over the next few months, as he currently sits 18th.

Here's a look at the top 25 of the U.S. Ryder Cup standings heading into the Memorial.

European Ryder Cup standings

As for the European side, the top six coming out of Quail Hollow last week were Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Rasmus Højgaard, Tyrrell Hatton, Sepp Straka, and Justin Rose.

While the top five remain the same, Tommy Fleetwood has supplanted Rose in the No. 6 spot by way of his T4 finish at Colonial and now leads his fellow Englishman by 66.79 points.

One would assume both will be on the team regardless of where they finish in the standings, but not having to wait out the captain's pick process is always a bonus.

With his second-place finish at the Charles Schwab, Matti Schmid made a massive jump, moving from 64th to 25th. He'll still need to do a lot more over the next few months to be genuinely considered as a captain's pick, but the German undoubtedly put himself on Donald's radar with his play at Colonial this past week.

Here's a look at the top 25 in the European Ryder Cup standings.
