7 Players with the most on the line at the RSM Classic
By Randy Pilon
As the FedEx Cup Fall winds down, there is still a lot to be decided as the PGA Tour tees it up at Sea Island for the RSM Classic, the finale of the fall season.
The 2024 PGA Tour season finale is sure to provide plenty of drama and pressure for players down the stretch, as status and starts for 2025 won't be decided until Sunday. Young players, journeymen, and even winners from 2024 are fighting to put themselves in the best position for 2025.
With the status of their next season hanging in the balance, who has the most on the line at the RSM Classic? Here are seven players looking to make a major move to potentially alter their career trajectory during the 2024 season’s final week.
Nico Echavarria has a lot on the line at the RSM Classic
Nico recorded his second PGA Tour win during the FedEx Cup fall series at the Zozo Championship, quickly vaulting him into the AON Next 10 status, which includes entry into the second and third signature events of 2025. However, at 59 on the FedEx Cup Fall list, he needs a good showing at the RSM Classic to maintain his position and secure coveted early season starts in signature events for 2025.
Mark Hubbard
Mark Hubbard was on a major streak earlier this season. He made the cut in his first 19 events this year. For the season, Hubbard has made 25 of 29 cuts. That is an impressive amount of golf for a PGA Tour player. Currently at 63rd in the standings but coming off a tie for third in Bermuda, Hubbard can jump into the AON Next 10 with a solid showing and take his consistent play to the second and third signature events in 2025.
Jake Knapp
The former bouncer and journeyman golfer earned his way to the PGA Tour via the Korn Ferry Tour in 2023, then quickly made his mark, winning the Mexico Open in February. Knapp has lost some of his mojo lately, falling from number 59 in FedEx Cup points to 64th in the fall, and needs a strong showing to work his way back into the AON Next 10.
Joel Dahmen
One of the stars of Netflix’s Full Swing, Dahmen is currently barely holding onto his tour card, landing at 124 on the FedEx Cup Fall standings, with the top 125 keeping their cards for 2025. After publicly battling with the mental side of his game for much of the last two years, a good end to the season would give Dahmen momentum headed into 2025. A bad finish, along with strong play from others on this list, could cost Dahmen his card for next year and relegate him to conditional status.
Wesley Bryan
Half of the popular YouTube channel Bryan Bros Golf, Wesley Bryan is a previous winner on tour who has struggled in recent years to regain his form. However, a thrilling Saturday 61 in Bermuda and a top-20 finish had him entering play at the RSM as the bubble man of the PGA Tour, sitting at number 125 on the FedEx Cup standings. A steady finish would help Wesley regain his full card and drive enthusiasm in 2025 tour events from a younger audience.
Hayden Springer
If you haven’t heard Springer’s story yet, you should. Ryan French, currently of Monday Q Info and formerly of the Fire Pit Collective, has extensively documented all of the struggles his family has faced, including the loss of his daughter right before Q School last year. His first season on the PGA Tour has featured several top-10s and the 14th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history, but inconsistent play has him on the outside of the top 125 looking in. A good finish could help him hold onto his card for another year and would be a great addition to his story.
Alejandro Tosti
Another 2023 Korn Ferry Tour grad, Tosti has a fiery personality that has gotten him into trouble in the past, but the Argentinian has shown he belongs on tour, with a runner-up finish among three top-25s for the season. However, inconsistency has also plagued Tosti, as 15 missed cuts in 27 events has him outside the top 125 and fighting to save his tour card at the RSM Classic.
