Following last week's party in the desert the PGA Tour returns to California for the last stop of this year's West Coast swing, Tiger's event, the 2025 Genesis Invitational.
Held annually at the iconic Riviera Country Club, this year's edition will be played at Torrey Pines after being moved due to the devastating wildfires. Three weeks after hosting the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open, Torrey Pines welcomes an elite field back to beautiful La Jolla, California, for the season's third signature event. Twelve of the top 15 players in the Official World Golf Ranking will be in attendance for this year's event including defending Genesis Invitational champion Hideki Matsuyama, who famously stormed back in the final round last year to claim victory.
Matsuyama was one of a handful of players in attendance at Torrey Pines a few weeks ago and returns to one of the most scenic venues on the schedule with one signature event title already in hand after winning at The Sentry to open the season. The 2024 Genesis Invitational champion will be joined at the third of eight signature events this season by a host of other big names including World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, fresh off of his win at the season's second signature event at Pebble Beach, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth, Ludvig Aberg, and last week's winner of the WM Phoenix Open, Thomas Detry, to name a few.
Tournament host Tiger Woods had initially committed to play but understandably withdrew from the event after a difficult month for the Woods family. Winning the Genesis Invitational at an iconic venue in front of Tiger Woods, who plans to be in attendance over the weekend, is something every player in the field would love to add to their resume come week's end. Let's dive into some of the key information to know ahead of this marquee event on the calendar including the tee times, this year's field at Torrey Pines, how much prize money is on the line, the 2025 Genesis Invitational TV schedule, and more.

Since the initial field release, Daniel Berger and Michael Kim were added to the field via the Aon Swing 5, bumping out Lee Hodges and Justin Lower. Meanwhile, both Chris Kirk and Tiger Woods withdrew from the event earlier in the week and were replaced by alternates Mark Hubbard and Jake Knapp.
Genesis Invitational format, purse, prize money
As mentioned, the Genesis Invitational boasts a field of 72 players in 2025 and unlike the majority of signature events on the schedule, a cut will be made to the top 50 players and ties at the halfway point. Additionally, every player within ten strokes of the leader after 36 holes will make the weekend at Torrey Pines. This is similar to what we saw implemented at Riviera, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and the Memorial Tournament last season. The Genesis Invitational is a 72-hole stroke-play event.
As one of eight signature events on the schedule, the Genesis Invitational will boast one of the largest prize purses of the season with an eye-opening sum of $20 million.
As was the case at The Sentry and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Genesis Invitational champion will earn a winner's share of $3.6 million in 2025, a tad less than the massive sum that Hideki Matsuyama received after winning the event at Riviera Country Club last year. Additionally, the 2025 winner at Torrey Pines will earn 700 FedEx Cup points, an increase from the standard 500 FedEx Cup points a player earns for winning an event on the PGA Tour.
