It's no secret that Tiger Woods has battled several serious injuries over the years.

And on March 11, the 82-time PGA Tour winner shared the news that he'd suffered yet another one, announcing via his X account that he'd undergone surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon. This was the full statement:

As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured.

This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.

"The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery," added Dr. Stucken. I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.

Golf fans were hoping to see a little more of Tiger during the 2025 season, as he looked good during the inaugural TGL season, even if his Jupiter Links squad went just 1-4 in its five regular-season matches, one of which Woods missed following the death of his mother.

But given this latest setback, that obviously won't be the case. While no timetable has been given for his return, one would think Woods will miss all four major championships, although Bernhard Langer set an impressive precedent by returning to PGA Tour Champions just three months after suffering the same injury last February.

But for now, we're all just playing the waiting game.

That said, though, Tiger's good friend and fellow Masters champion Fred Couples has offered up an encouraging update.

Fred Couples says Tiger Woods is "in good spirits" following Achilles surgery

Ahead of this week's senior circuit event, the Hoag Classic, Couples stated he recently spoke to Woods and that the 15-time major winner is in "good spirits."

"I've texted him. As soon as it happened, he got back to me, and I texted him on a couple other things—about TGL, his daughter just won that state soccer thing," Couples said. "I mean, that was before he hurt himself. He was on Cloud 20. It was amazing. He's in great spirits for a ruptured Achilles. He really is.

"He'll be fine. It's such a bummer because people think, 'When's he gonna play?' He was scheduled to play a few events. Not a ton, but a few events. And you know, his mother passing away would slow anyone down. But he's my man, and texting him is a lot of fun."

Tiger, of course, will soon be eligible to join Couples on the PGA Tour Champions, as he turns 50 on December 30. Could the senior circuit be where Woods makes his official return to tournament golf?

Only time will tell.
