PGA Tour Power Rankings: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
By James Monday
8. Nick Taylor
The Canadian with that dog in him, Taylor came up with a near-impossible victory over Nico Echavarria at the Sony Open earlier this year. He followed that up with a T11 at the American Express, continuing a strong start to his 2025. A former winner of the Pro-Am, Taylor has always managed to lean on a strong approach game and above-average short game to maybe over-perform in events, making him a little difficult to pin down just when Nick Taylor will actually piece things together. Right now, it seems that everything is trending in the right direction, and in going back to a tournament he has won in the past, Taylor should be able to put together a strong week for the neighbors up north.
7. Denny McCarthy
A trend that has been very consistent over the years for the Pro-Am is that it has been one of the most difficult tournaments in regards to putting on the entire Tour slate, very similar to the trend seen when looking at Torrey Pines last week (more on last week's power rankings coming up soon). Since Denny McCarthy's rookie season on Tour, here are his year-end strokes gained putting rankings: 18, 1, 1, 22, 2, 3, and 4. Consistently one of the best putters on Tour, McCarthy also has a very strong short game, and if he can piece together a decent week off the tee, he can ride his putter to a strong finish come Sunday.
6. Ludvig Aberg
You have no idea how good I was feeling after Ludvig's opening-round 63 after I put him so high in last week's power rankings. Sadly, Aberg decided to show everyone that he is not in fact a golfing robot by dealing with the stomach flu for the rest of the week, ultimately crashing down the leaderboard. Aberg's spot in these rankings is completely predicated on 1) the fact that he was one shot back of Wyndham Clark last year before the tournament was called due to weather, and 2) Aberg is an extremely talented player when completely healthy. Once again, the "dome golfer" potential with this week's projected calm weather around the peninsula is strong with Aberg, but we can discuss Aberg's tendencies more throughout the year, no need to harp on them too much in January.
