3. Davis Thompson sets John Deere Classic scoring record

And arguably the greatest story from this weekend is none other than the champion himself, Davis Thompson.

Thompson played great golf all week long, but it was his final round that was the most impressive. With as big of a lead as he had, it would’ve been easy for him to turn on cruise control. But Thompson did the exact opposite and shot a 7-under 64 to clinch his first victory on tour.

But the best part of it all, Thompson’s finishing score of 28-under par set the John Deere scoring record, which was previously set at 27-under.

This victory for Thompson caps off a very impressive run where he’s finished top 10 in four of his last seven tournaments. This includes a 9th place finish at the US Open, two 2nd place finishes at the Myrtle Beach Classic and Rocket Mortgage Classic, and the victory on Sunday.

Thompson is a name I haven’t really heard much of until recently, but I am quickly becoming a huge fan. I’m excited to see if this momentum continues and who knows, maybe he’ll contend once again at the British Open in two weeks.
