Rocket Mortgage Classic payout distribution 2024: Purse, winner's prize money
Following a run of big events over a condensed period, the PGA Tour caught its breath with a stop in the Motor City for the 2024 edition of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. While some of the game's big names elected for a week off ahead of the year's final major in a few weeks, there was still plenty on the line for those who teed it up at Detroit Golf Club this week.
Coming into this year's Rocket Mortgage Classic players knew that they would need to capitalize on their birdie opportunities if they wanted to contend in an event that had witnessed winning scores north of 23-under par in four of its previous five editions. Multiple players rose to the occasion on Moving Day at this year's Rocket Mortgage Classic and in the process found themselves on course to match or surpass that mark.
Two players who began their week at the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic with a flurry of birdies on the card kept up the pace during the third round at Detroit Golf Club, and as a result, found themselves tied for the lead at the top of the board going into the final round.
Akshay Bhatia, winner of this year's Valero Texas Open, followed a scintillating opening round of 8-under 64 with a bogey-free 4-under 68 on Moving Day to extend his impressive stretch of error-free golf to 54 holes. The talented 22-year-old hadn't recorded a single bogey over the first three days of action and would look to keep his card clean over his final 18 holes as he attempted to secure his third career PGA Tour win and second of the season.
Englishman Aaron Rai found himself tied with Bhatia at the top of the leaderboard going into the final round of this year's Rocket Mortgage Classic following impressive rounds of 66, 65, and 68 over the first three days. Rai would attempt to deny Bhatia the victory during the final round at Detroit Golf Club and in the process earn his first win on tour.
While both Bhatia and Rai found themselves in an advantageous position after playing some exceptional golf, there were plenty of others lurking heading into what was sure to be a low-scoring shootout during the final round in Detroit. Whoever emerged victorious would go on to become the sixth champion of the event that made its debut on the PGA Tour schedule back in 2019. In addition, this year's champion would also earn a share of this year's substantial Rocket Mortgage Classic prize purse. Exactly how much was on the line this year in Detroit, though? Let's take a look at the full purse breakdown, winner's prize money, and payout distribution for the field at Detroit Golf Club in 2024.
Rocket Mortgage Classic purse 2024: Total purse and winner's prize money
The purse for this year's Rocket Mortgage Classic is set at $9.2 million for 2024 with this year's champion set to earn a handsome winner's share of $1.65 million; 18% of this year's overall purse at Detroit Golf Club. The impressive $9.2 million prize purse for 2024 is an increase from the $8.8 million that was divvied out to the field in Detroit last year. It marks the third consecutive season that the purse has seen an increase after a sum of $7.5 million was paid out to the fields in both the 2020 and 2021 seasons. While these numbers may pale in comparison to the overwhelming amounts that have been on offer in this year's majors, signature events, and on the LIV Tour, the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic purse still ranks on the higher-end amongst regular tour event prize purses this season.
