3M Open payout distribution 2024: Purse, winner's prize money
With all four of this year's majors officially in the rearview mirror, attention turned towards the penultimate event of the PGA Tour regular season, the 2024 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota. While some were busy preparing for the Olympics in France, others made the journey to TPC Twin Cities in search of crucial FedEx Cup points with the playoffs on the near horizon.
For the second consecutive year, the Top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings following the conclusion of the Wyndham Championship in a couple of weeks will advance to the first leg of this year's playoffs in Memphis, Tennessee. As a result, those who weren't already comfortably inside of the Top 70 knew that points would be at a premium over the next few weeks, and for some, a poor showing at this year's 3M Open could result in the end of any playoff aspirations for 2024.
33-year-old Taylor Pendrith entered the season's penultimate event with the knowledge that his ticket to the first leg of this year's FedEx Cup playoffs was already secured after the Canadian picked up his first PGA Tour win earlier this season at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Texas. In search of his second victory of the year, Pendrith began his week in Minnesota with two rounds in the 60s that saw him grasp the 36-hole lead going into Moving Day of this year's 3M Open. But a 2-over 73 during the third round on a course that was surrendering plenty of birdies to the majority of the field saw the 33-year-old's time at the top of the leaderboard short-lived.
A host of the chasing pack made significant moves up the leaderboard on Moving Day at TPC Twin Cities, but none more so than 3-time PGA Tour winner Jhonattan Vegas who fired an 8-under 63; a round that ensured he would take a slim advantage over the rest of the field into the final round. Vegas would attempt to hold back the rest of a tightly congested leaderboard during the final round as he aimed to pick up his first win on the PGA Tour since the 2017 RBC Canadian Open.
Whether it was Jhonattan Vegas, or Matt Kuchar, who would look to keep his remarkable playoff streak alive with a win at the 3M Open, or any one of the rest of the competition in hot pursuit, whoever emerged victorious would not only take home this year's trophy but also a substantial share of the 2024 3M Open prize purse. Exactly how much was at stake this year in Minnesota, though? Let's take a look at the purse, winner's share, and complete payout distribution by finishing position for the penultimate regular-season event on the PGA schedule in 2024.
3M Open purse 2024: Total purse and winner's prize money
The purse for the 3M Open is set at $8.1 million for 2024 with this year's champion in Minnesota taking home the winner's share of $1.458 million; the PGA Tour standard 18% of the overall prize purse. While the purse for the 2024 3M Open may pale in comparison to the humongous sums that have been divvied out at this year's majors and signature events on the PGA Tour, it's still an increase from the $7.8 million figure that was at stake in 2023 and an increase of $600,000 from the 3M Open purse in 2022 when Tony Finau claimed the title at TPC Twin Cities.

Even with its substantial increase in recent years, the 3M Open still ranks on the low end amongst PGA Tour prize purses this season. Still, the Top 20 finishers at TPC Twin Cities in 2024 will all take home at least six-figures, while each of the Top 3 at this year's 3M Open will earn over 500k in prize money for their efforts.
In addition to earning a handsome winner's share of this year's prize purse in Minnesota, and all of the other benefits that come with winning a PGA Tour event, the 2024 3M Open champion will receive a crucial 500 FedEx Cup points in the season-long race to East Lake and the 2024 Tour Championship next month. Following next week's Olympic Tournament at Le Golf National, the PGA Tour returns to North Carolina for the final event before the FedEx Cup playoffs; the 2024 Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club.
