LIV Golf rumors: LIV targets Top 20 player to join Rahm
LIV Golf made a massive splash towards the end of 2023 when the ever-growing tour announced the signing of one of its biggest stars to date with former World No. 1 Jon Rahm. Then things went quiet for a while.
With its 2024 season just days away, LIV has been looking to make a few more splash signings as the tour looks to fill out the rest of its brand-new 13th team captained by Rahm.
According to reports by The Times in London, Polish star Adrian Meronk, a four-time winner on the DP World Tour who recently earned his PGA Tour card for this season, is set to follow Rahm in joining the Saudi-backed circuit ahead of the new season.
The current 39th-ranked player in the world was scheduled to tee it up at this week's Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines but withdrew before teeing off on Wednesday. Meronk will reportedly join the LIV Golf Cleeks team captained by Martin Kaymer.
With LIV Golf's first event of the season just around the corner, the clock is ticking on the tour to complete Rahm's four-man team. After reportedly being turned down by European Ryder Cup stars, Tommy Fleetwood and Nicolai Hojgaard, LIV is pushing hard to complete the signing of another star of the triumphant European team ahead of its season-opening event at LIV Golf Mayakoba.
LIV Golf rumors: LIV closing in on surprise Tyrrell Hatton signing
Per Sports Illustrated's Bob Harig, LIV is growing close to adding Tyrrell Hatton to the tour's collection of stars.
Hatton, a seven-time winner across the globe, earned his first PGA Tour win back in 2020 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The Englishman has multiple wins on the DP World Tour including victories at the BMW PGA Championship in 2020 and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in 2021.
Tyrrell, who is currently ranked inside of the Top 20 in the Official World Golf Ranking, would be a logical target to join Rahm's LIV Golf team having previously partnered with the Spaniard at the Ryder Cup.
If the deal were to come to fruition, the 32-year-old who recently committed to playing in next month's WM Phoenix Open, would be yet another significant signing by the LIV Golf circuit with the tour's third official season on the near horizon.
LIV Golf will kick off its 2024 campaign in Mexico on February 2nd.
