THE PLAYERS Championship payout distribution 2024: Winner's payout, prize purse
Even with the newly minted 'Signature Events' now a regular part of the PGA Tour schedule, there was no denying that THE PLAYERS Championship retained its place as the first massive event on this year's calendar.
With major season now on the near horizon, a large portion of the world's best players made the journey to the famous TPC Sawgrass for the PGA Tour's flagship event. Amongst them was U.S. Open winner, Wyndham Clark, who had established himself as the clear tournament leader through 36 holes of play.
Unfortunately for Clark, however, he was unable to replicate the exceptional rounds of 65 he fired off over the first two days. Instead, Clark settled for a solid 2-under 70 on moving day at the 50th playing of THE PLAYERS Championship.
While this year's winner of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am put together an under-par round on moving day, the competition still managed to close the gap, and in the case of Xander Schauffele, took control at the top of the leaderboard, following numerous exceptional rounds by a large portion of the chasing pack.
Xander placed himself in excellent position to claim what would possibly be the biggest win of his career to date. A spectacular bogey-free round of 7-under 65 was enough for the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist to take command of the lead going into the final round.
A handful of others ensured that they were well-positioned to potentially win this year's PLAYERS Championship heading into Sunday, including last year's Champion Golfer of The Year Brian Harman, who posted the best tally on moving day following a stunning 8-under 64 on a very challenging layout. Harman would attempt to close a two-stroke deficit over the course of the final round and claim his first PLAYERS Championship victory.
World-class players including, 2022 U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick and last year's PLAYERS Champion, Scottie Scheffler, were just a couple of the names, amongst others, who were still well within touching distance of the leader heading into the final round at TPC Sawgrass.
Competing for the largest prize purse of the season to date, competition was sure to be fierce during what was shaping up to be a compelling final round at the 2024 PLAYERS Championship.
Let's take a look at the eye-opening figures that were on offer for the elite golfers at this year's PLAYERS Championship; including the massive winner's payout at TPC Sawgrass.
THE PLAYERS Championship: 2024 Prize purse and winner's share
THE PLAYERS Championship purse for its 50th edition is set at a massive $25 million for 2024; the largest purse of the season to date and tentatively the largest overall purse of the year. The winner of THE PLAYERS will take home an eye-opening $4.5 million in prize money; a little under 20% of the overall prize purse in 2024.
This year's signature events on the PGA Tour have dished out $20 million each and it's presumed the majority of the majors will offer similar purses for their fields in 2024. If that's indeed the case, it clearly makes the prize purse for this year's PLAYERS Championship the best of the best.
