At the Blythefield Country Club in Belmont, Michigan, the LPGA Tour will tee it off in the Meijer LPGA Classic with many possible outcomes and storylines. As the summer season begins, many players will be looking to move up in the world rankings for chances to clinch spots in the Olympics and Solheim Cup.

Fascinating storylines to watch at the 2024 Meijer LPGA Classic

Nelly Korda who mathematically clinched a spot in the Solheim Cup last week, will look to rebound after a rough US Open, which saw her miss the cut after scoring a tough 80 in the opening round. She will look to win her seventh tournament on the season. She is currently still in first place in the Rolex Rankings for the Olympics.

The top 60 players in the Rolex Rankings will have a chance to compete in Paris for their country in August. Lilia Vu, Celine Boutier, and Minjee Lee are all in the top 10 of the rankings and will be competing this weekend. Lexi Thompson who won the Classic in 2015, is currently sitting in 60th place and if she wishes to compete in Paris, will need to make a move.

As for Vu, it is her first time participating in a tournament since March. She has had back issues her entire career and has been unable to play much this year. She had won two majors last season and held the top spot in the World Rankings before injuries and Korda's breakout year. Her best finish thus far came at the Honda LPGA Thailand where she finished in seventh place.

Also teeing it off this weekend is Georgia Oboh. Oboh received an exemption after winning the John Shippen Invitational. The Invitational named after the golfing pioneer, allows minority golfers a chance to compete in tournaments on both the LPGA and PGA Tours. Oboh has been playing primarily on the Ladies European Tour.
