RSM Classic payout distribution 2024: Purse, winner's prize money
The PGA Tour returned to Sea Island Resort in St. Simons Island, Georgia, for the final event of this year's FedEx Cup Fall. The 2024 RSM Classic, the last of eight events this fall, presented players with one last opportunity to improve their standing in a heated FedEx Cup Fall points race. With PGA Tour cards and signature event spots on the line, high drama, and high winds, it was going to be a dramatic conclusion to 2024.
Michael Thorbjornsen, making his first start since a knee injury forced him to withdraw from the Black Desert Championship last month, got off to a blistering start in the opening round of this year's championship taking advantage of favorable scoring conditions on the Plantation Course at Sea Island GC. While Thorbjornsen opened his week with an exceptional 8-under 64 on the Plantation Course, Maverick McNealy, who had dealt with a recent knee injury of his own, matched Thorbjornsen's 64 with one of his own. McNealy held the co-lead at the RSM Classic early on following a fantastic opening round on the more difficult Seaside Course; site of three of the four competitive rounds at this year's championship.
Seaside and the wind at this year's tournament continued to wreak havoc and going into Moving Day the Seaside Course had played substantially more difficult than its counterpart. While Thorbjornsen and McNealy continued to ascend the leaderboard, it was Patrick Fishburn who took control at the top at the halfway point.
Fishburn, in search of his first career win on the PGA Tour, would have his work cut out for him if he was going to secure his breakthrough win on tour with a handful of others throwing their hats into the mix on Moving Day. Amongst that group, was one Daniel Berger who, after a long road back from an injury that kept him on the sidelines for an incredible 19 months, was in contention once again thanks to a 7-under 63 during the third round. Berger would attempt to win for the first time on the PGA Tour since the 2021 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Whether it was Berger, or several players in search of their first PGA Tour win including McNealy and Fishburn, whoever emerged victorious at this year's RSM Classic would not only collect the final 500 FedEx Cup points of the year but also a handsome winner's share of this year's prize purse. How much prize money was on the line at the FedEx Cup Fall finale, though? Let's take a look at the total prize purse, including the winner's share and complete payout distribution by position for this year's championship at Sea Island Resort.
RSM Classic purse 2024: Total purse and winner's prize money
The purse for the RSM Classic is set at $7.6 million with the 2024 RSM Classic champion set to receive a $1.368 million winner's share; a PGA Tour standard 18% of the overall prize purse at Sea Island Resort. The prize purse at the FedEx Cup Fall finale obviously pales in comparison to some of the staggering figures that were divvied out to signature event fields on the PGA Tour last season. Additionally, the RSM Classic prize purse in 2024 continues a trend this fall amongst events that have by and large seen a decrease in prize money distributed to its fields. For the first time since 2021, the event on St. Simons Island, Georgia, will witness a total purse of less than $8 million after the previous two years had seen figures of $8.1 million (2022) and $8.4 million (2023) divvied out to the fields at Sea Island Resort. Still, with $7.6 million in prize money up for grabs, the RSM ranks high amongst this fall's eight FedEx Cup events with only the ZOZO Championship last month offering a larger prize purse to its field in Japan.

As mentioned, while a far cry from the enormous sums that were at stake throughout a large portion of the PGA Tour season in 2024, the RSM Classic ranks highly amongst this year's eight FedEx Cup Fall events with a total prize purse of $7.6 million. That matches this year's Sanderson Farms Championship and only ranks behind the ZOZO Championship for the largest prize purses over the past couple of months on the PGA Tour. All of this is reflected in the payout distributions at the 2024 RSM Classic with each of the top 10 finishers at Sea Island Resort earning over $200k in prize money. Meanwhile, each of the top 20 will also secure six-figure paydays at this year's FedEx Cup Fall finale.
Of course, for as nice as these substantial prize sums are for all involved, there were much bigger prizes at stake during the final event of the fall with PGA Tour cards and signature event spots at stake. Following the conclusion of the 2024 RSM Classic, the top 125 players in the FedEx Cup Fall points standings would guarantee their spots for the upcoming 2025 PGA Tour season, while those who were lucky enough to place inside of the top 60 in the fall standings also booked their tickets to two early signature events next season at Pebble Beach and Riviera Country Club. The PGA Tour will kick off the new year and its new season in Hawaii at The Sentry on January 2nd.
