ZOZO Championship payout distribution 2024: Purse, winner's prize money
The ZOZO Championship welcomed the PGA Tour's return to Japan and Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club for the sixth edition of the event. Narashino Country Club played host to the event for the fifth time in 2024 after the second playing of the championship was previously contested at Sherwood Country Club in California in 2020 as a result of the pandemic. Boasting a strong field this time around, the ZOZO Championship marked the fifth of eight FedEx Cup Fall events this year that will culminate at the RSM Classic next month. Those who made the journey to Japan knew that with limited opportunities remaining this fall a good showing in this year's event could go a long way toward securing PGA Tour cards and spots in early signature events in 2025.
With a spot in the Top 60 in the FedEx Cup standings and with it a ticket to an early-season signature event at Pebble Beach in 2025 in his sights, Taylor Moore got off to the perfect start on Thursday of this year's ZOZO Championship with an opening 7-under 63 at Narashino CC. Moore would take the lead into Friday's second round and remain in contention over the weekend but it was Nico Echavarria, who earned his first PGA Tour win at the Puerto Rico Open in 2023, who held the tournament lead after 36 holes. With a tally of 12-under par at the halfway point, the Colombian would take a lead into Moving Day of an event for the first time in his young PGA Tour career.
Looking to secure what would be a second PGA Tour win, Nico would attempt to hold off some big names during the final round of this year's ZOZO Championship, amongst them, two-time major champion Justin Thomas whose return to form was a sight for sore eyes for JT fans. With Rickie Fowler and a host of others lurking, the final round of this year's championship was sure to be anything but dull. Whether it was Echavarria, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, or any of the other challengers within touching distance of the top of the leaderboard, whoever emerged triumphant would not only secure valuable FedEx Cup points but also a significant winner's share of this year's ZOZO Championship prize purse. But exactly how much was on the line this year in Japan, though? Let's take a look at the purse, the winner's prize money, and the payout distribution breakdown by finishing position for the sixth edition of the ZOZO Championship.
ZOZO Championship purse 2024: Total purse and winner's prize money
The ZOZO Championship will boast the largest purse of this year's FedEx Fall to date coming in at $8.5 million with this year's champion at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club taking home a winner's share of $1.53 million; just under 20% of the overall prize purse in Japan. Maintaining an $8.5 million prize for the second year running, the 2024 ZOZO Championship will divvy out nearly one million more than the next highest purse (Sanderson Farms, $7.6 million) so far this fall. While not on the same level as the majority of purses on the PGA Tour schedule earlier this year, the ZOZO Championship in its sixth edition will still feature a prize larger than most events on this year's FedEx Cup Fall schedule and will best several other PGA Tour events earlier this year including the Sony Open in Hawaii in January ($8.3 million), the Valspar Championship last March ($8.4 million), and the John Deere Classic in July ($8 million), to name a few.

As mentioned, the 2024 ZOZO Championship will feature one of the largest purses of the FedEx Cup Fall events and this is reflected in the payout distribution with the Top 11 finishers at Narashino Country Club all earning north of 200k in prize money. Each of the Top 20 at this year's ZOZO will take home at least six figures in prize money for their efforts.
Of course, in addition to the prize money on the line this fall, perhaps even more valuable are the crucial FedEx Cup points that are up for grabs as players jostle for positioning in the FedEx Cup standings with the end of the year fast approaching. With Tour cards on the line for the Top 125 and spots in early-season signature events next year via the Aon Next 10 up for grabs, there is a lot at stake outside of the amounts of prize money that these events will divvy out in the coming weeks. This year's champion in Japan will earn a precious 500 FedEx Cup points in addition to the winner's share of prize money and all of the other perks that come with winning an event on the PGA Tour.
