World Wide Technology Championship payout distribution 2024: Purse, prize money
The PGA Tour returned to Mexico and Tiger Woods' El Cardonal at Diamante for the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship. Last year, El Cardonal at Diamante hosted the World Wide Technology Championship for the first time with the stunning locale making its debut as a part of the PGA Tour schedule. The World Wide Technology Championship itself has been around much longer than that. The tournament made its debut on the PGA Tour back in 2007 when it became the first event to not only be played in Mexico, but the first official event played outside of the United States or Canada at the time.
This year, El Cardonal welcomed a 120-man field for the World Wide Technology Championship for the second playing of the event held at the Tiger Woods Design. Despite lacking some of the biggest names in golf, there was plenty at stake for those in attendance with the WWT Championship representing the sixth of eight FedEx Cup events this fall. With valuable FedEx Cup points at stake, it was 29-year-old Carson Young who looked to take full advantage of the opportunity at hand at this year's World Wide Technology Championship.
Young's scintillating 11-under 61 during the second round of this year's championship ensured he was firmly in contention after 36 holes of action at El Cardonal. In search of his first PGA Tour win, Carson Young followed his exceptional round with another, this time a 5-under 67 on Moving Day which was good enough to earn him a share of the lead heading into the final round at this year's WWT Championship. However, for as well as he had played, Young was not alone at the top of the leaderboard going into the final round. Fresh off of his second PGA win at the ZOZO Championship, Nico Echavarria found himself in contention once again following rounds of 69-63 and 68. The Colombian, alongside Justin Lower, another player searching for that breakthrough win on tour, joined Young as 54-hole co-leaders in Mexico.
With three players tied at the top and five others no more than two shots adrift going into the final round of this year's championship, it was sure to be an exhilarating conclusion to this year's World Wide Technology Championship. Whether it was Carson Young, Echavarria, Lower, or any of the other names in hot pursuit, whoever claimed this year's title at El Cardonal would not only secure the precious FedEx Cup points up for grabs but also a handsome winner's share of this year's prize purse at the World Wide Technology Championship. But exactly how much was on the line at El Cardonal in 2024? Let's take a look at the prize purse, the winner's share, and the complete payout distribution breakdown by finishing position for this year's championship.
World Wide Technology Championship purse 2024: Total purse and winner's prize money
The purse for the World Wide Technology Championship in 2024 is set at $7.2 million with the champion at El Cardonal at Diamante set to take home a winner's share of $1.296 million; the third largest prize for a champion this fall thus far. The WWT Championship prize purse for 2024 sees a decrease from previous editions of the championship which divvied out over $8 million in prize money in each of the last two seasons. The sixth of eight events on the FedEx Cup Fall schedule will feature a prize purse right on par with the majority of PGA Tour events to close out the year; less than what was divvied out at the ZOZO Championship, the Sanderson Farms Championship, and the inaugural Black Desert Championship, and a slight increase from the figures that were paid out at this year's Procore Championship and Shriners Children's Open.

While it's to be expected that the prize money on offer throughout the FedEx Cup Fall would pale in comparison to the staggering amounts that were at stake during the 2024 PGA Tour season, there is still plenty to play for in the fall in addition to the substantial prize money divvied out to this year's World Wide Technology Championship field. Each of the Top 19 finishers in 2024 at El Cardonal at Diamante will earn north of $100k in prize money for their efforts while the Top 6 finishers will all receive over $250k in prize payouts in 2024.
While a handsome payday for the majority of these fields is undoubtedly nice, perhaps even more rewarding are the valuable FedEx Cup points on the line throughout these eight fall events. With limited opportunities remaining, the FedEx Cup points awarded at the conclusion of the World Wide Technology Championship in 2024 could prove to be the difference between securing PGA Tour and signature event status or just missing out ahead of the 2025 season. This year's champion in Mexico will earn the valuable 500 FedEx Cup points up for grabs in addition to their winner's share of the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship prize purse, and all of the other perks that come with winning an event on the PGA Tour.
