Black Desert Championship payout distribution 2024: Purse, winner's prize money
Utah welcomed the return of the PGA Tour for the first time since 1963 as the Black Desert Championship at the stunning Black Desert Resort hosted a PGA Tour event for the very first time. The event in its inaugural edition represented the third of eight FedEx Cup Fall events that will culminate at the RSM Classic next month. With spots in signature events and tour cards on the line, there was plenty to play for at this year's Black Desert Championship.
Stephan Jaeger, winner of the Texas Children's Houston Open in March, took hold of the 36-hole lead at the Black Desert Championship following a blistering 8-under 63 during the second round. However, it was 26-year-old Matt McCarty who would take the lead into the final round at the beautiful Black Desert Resort. While Jaeger found himself two shots adrift going into Sunday's round of this year's championship and well within touching distance of what would be a second career PGA Tour victory, McCarty stole the headlines on Moving Day.
Matt, who earned his way onto the PGA Tour courtesy of the Korn Ferry Tour's three-win promotion, fired a 7-under 64 during the third round at Black Desert which was good enough to ensure the talented young player took a lead into the final round. McCarty would aim to earn his first PGA win in just his third career start.
Whether it was McCarty, Jaeger, or any of the chasing pack in hot pursuit, whoever emerged victorious would not only claim the valuable FedEx Cup Fall points on offer but also a significant winner's share of this year's Black Desert Championship prize purse. Exactly how much was on the line this year in Utah, though? Let's take a look at the purse and payout distribution by finishing position at the inaugural Black Desert Championship.
Black Desert Championship purse 2024: Total purse and winner's prize money
The purse for this year's Black Desert Championship is set at $7.5 million with this year's champion in Utah taking home a winner's share of $1.35 million; a little under 20% of the overall purse for the third event of this year's FedEx Cup Fall. The purse for the inaugural Black Desert Championship is a little less than the sums that were divvied out to last week's field in Mississippi at the Sanderson Farms ($7.6 million), but a fairly substantial increase from the prize money that was up for grabs at the first event of the FedEx Cup Fall; the Procore Championship in California last month.

It's to be expected that the prize money on offer during these FedEx Cup Fall events would pale in comparison to the astronomical sums that were on offer at last season's signature events and major championships. Still, each of the Top 19 finishers at the 2024 Black Desert Championship will take home over six figures for their efforts while the Top 10 at Black Desert Resort will all clear over $200k in prize money.
In addition to the prize money, perhaps even more valuable at this time of the year are the FedEx Cup points which are up for grabs as players look to earn their way into either the top 125, which would guarantee their Tour status for the upcoming season, or the Aon Next 10, which would ensure a spot in two early-season signature events next year following The Sentry. This year's champion in Utah will be awarded 500 FedEx Cup points in addition to their winner's share of the prize purse and all of the other perks that come with winning an event on the PGA Tour.
